The marriage was supposed to last forever, but it didn't! This book is for women (and men) who suddenly find themselves thrust into the role of single parenting. Just as there are labor pains in childbirth, there are labor pains in the process of single parenting. Left to raise four children ages eleven, ten, five, and four years old, Geniene shares some of her labor pains and her labor of love as a single mother. She openly discusses her early thoughts of suicide. She shares what she calls the second-worst pain a parent could experience--her oldest son sentenced to life in prison--and the peace of God that helps her to bear the never-ending pain. She also shares the story of the car accident that almost took her only daughter's life. She boldly states why she believes that a mother cannot be both a mother and a father to a son. Geniene's faith in God, love for her children, support from family and friends, and determination gave her the strength to push through the pain, focus on her children, and embrace her new life as a single mother. The divorce papers took her by surprise, but God is never caught off guard.

When I look at the 25 single moms who wrote their stories here, I see the shackles they must break every day just to stand up. When I see them smiling, having read their stories, just know how far they had to go to bring that smile to the surface, it melts my heart. When I hear them talking, I also feel the weight of every word they say; words pregnant with history and the unsaid. Last year, I encouraged single moms on my Facebook Page, Single Moms' HeartSpa, to write their stories as part of their healing process. 25 of them took the challenge, and what I read horrified me and increased my admiration for the resilience of single moms in Africa. Their stories are riveting, triggering, angering and revolting, yet inspiring. All the proceeds from this book go to these courageous and selfless moms, who, although failed by the system, are doing everything in their power to raise the next generation with poise and dignity. They are courageous, enterprising and eager to work on their empowerment but are cast away, marginalized and stigmatized for standing up for themselves and running away from untold abuse. Where they live, the label single mom is like a curse. Their societies would rather they died married to men who are not accountable to anyone, who lord over women and abandon their children without any qualms. This is where these single moms come from. I see this book as our contribution to uplifting them and their children, to indicting the systems that perpetrate abuse and hopefully to bringing awareness and inspiring action. Will you join me in uplifting and changing the lives of these single moms in Africa by purchasing your copy? Your help and contributions will be highly appreciated.

It is a self-help, motivational and inspirational read, designed to help those who are going through hard times and those who are looking for positive guidance, uplifting stories, and/or inducement. The memoir shares testimonies from Vanessa's past and goals for her future. It speaks about how she rose above her heritage and purchased her home at 21 years old. DOASM also reveals candid details about Vanessa's life and the struggles she endured growing up in the projects of South Philadelphia. Furthermore, Vanessa was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis a year after she purchased her first home, yet she found a way to overcome her illness, and live her life medication free. You will also read stories about pain and suffering, as well as the lack of support she had with her children. Vanessa tells all about the struggles she encountered with the judicial system, and her arrest after two parole officers stalked and harassed her for months. In addition, Vanessa discloses the tale of her divorce, and how her now ex-husband pleaded with her to abort her last child and his appalling reaction when she refused. Despite this hardship, Vanessa looked for a positive distraction; thus, she enrolled in college and attained several degrees. After successfully overcoming trials and tribulations, Vanessa decided to write a memoir to leave for her descendants for generations to come. However, God had a different plan for Vanessa. Consequently, she was inspired to share her testimonies with the world; hence, she published her manuscript. Diary of a Single Mother offers hope and inspiration. The book is designed to expand the mind of the readers; thus, prompting the audience to consider just how prosperous one's life could be if they change their thought process, which could ultimately change their life.
