How can a relationship become like an enduring love affair? Eloquently told by a remarkable woman whose love affair lasted almost thirty years, this tender story gives specific ways to keep love fresh and growing. It also warns against some all too common things, big and small, that can take the life out of a marriage, or any relationship that lasts. Of utmost importance for lovers in all seasons of love is how to keep growing as an individual within the embrace of love. The author wants her reader to become the woman she is capable of being and is meant to be. Love can be an adventure, she writes, of "trying on" oneself, of discovering who she is, and thus gaining her own life and becoming her own woman. This is the kind of book that once you read it, you want to give to all of the women you know. It is a treasure that can save relationships and change lives.

In Love for a Lifetime: Daily Wisdom and Wit for a Long and Happy Marriage, columnist Mary Hance shares a wealth of golden tips, collected far and wide from young couples just setting out to those whose wedding vows still echo through half a century and more. Here are a few: “Throw the word fair out the window. In one year of a marriage, one person may need 99 percent of the love, effort, or focus of the other; another year, it may be just the opposite.” “What my father always told me when I was planning my wedding: ‘You have to want to have a marriage, not just a wedding. Remember the difference.’” “Learn fast that the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence!” “After several years of marriage, there is no way I’m training another husband, so I will just keep the one I have!”

Can a man love two women at once? On a March day filled with bright sunshine, they met at a convention in Kansas City. He was a New Yorker with a charming personality. She was a Southerner fresh on the heels of a divorce and ready to start anew. Neither of them knew that their lives were about to change forever. In Mistress, one woman shares a true account of her long-time love affair with a married man as she details intimate conversations, uncensored letters, and discreet encounters. She provides quotes, poems, and the results of her detailed research into infidelity as she offers an honest look into the lives of two strangers who are somehow unable to suppress their immediate attraction and eventual love for each other. He loved his wife and children-but he also loved her. Mistress provides a compelling look at the secret world these two lovers shared together for more than thirty years. "This book is engaging, romantic and well written. It is most delightful when the author paints pictures with her words and brings to life magic moments in time through her sensitive, imaginative, nuanced awareness of the thoughts, feelings and the wonderful details of environment, circumstances and dialogue. It feels as if you are somehow there in those magic moments. It is a personal love story that touches parts of us all." -David Schoen, Jungian Analyst, Poet and author of Divine Tempest; the Hurricane as Psychic Phenomenon

Included in this edition are two of Benjamin Franklin's humorous essays. "Advice to a Friend on Choosing a Mistress" is a letter by Benjamin Franklin dated June 25, 1745 in which Franklin counsels a young man about channeling sexual urges. Due to its licentious nature the letter was not published in collections of Franklin's papers in the United States during the 19th century. Federal court decisions from the mid- to late- 20th century cited the document as a reason for overturning obscenity laws. "Fart Proudly" (also called "A Letter to a Royal Academy", and "To the Royal Academy of Farting") is the popular name of a "notorious essay" about flatulence written by Benjamin Franklin c. 1781 while he was living abroad as United States Ambassador to France.
