Excerpt from Acts of a Local Nature, Passed at the First Session of the Thirty-Fourth General Assembly of the State of Ohio, Vol. 34: Begun and Held in the City of Columbus, December 7, 1835, in the Thirty-Fourth Year of Said State Sec. 2. That any three of the above named persons shall have power to call a meeting, either annual or Special, by giving ten days previous notice thereof, by advertisements set up at three of the most public places in the town of Massillon; that the annual meeting of the trustees shall be held on the first Monday of April, of each succeeding year, at which time they shall elect by ballot five trustees, one treasurer, and one secre tary, who shall serve for term of one year, and until their successors be chosen; and in case an election should be neglected to be held on that day, the society, for that cause, shall not be dissolved, but it shall be law ful to hold an election at such other time as the by-laws shall direct. Sec. 3. That the funds of said society shall not be applied or invested for any other than for literary and scientific purposes; the purchase of a lot and building for the use of the society, the purchase of books, maps, charts, newspapers, pamphlets, periodical publications, and tne necessary expenses of the institution. Be itenadedbytlls Generoldmmbly of the Ohio, That the commissioners for the county of Bu and they are hereby authorized to appropriate, and draw on 'or before the first day of October next, an order on the Treasurer of the said county of Butler. In favor of the per son or persons to be appointed as hereinafter mentioned, for such sum of money as any lie equal to the which may be levied or assessed for the year I citizens resident on fractional sections numbers one and twqintpwnshif one, of range three, and fractional section number six, in township number one, of range two, between the Great and Little Miami rive Ste. 2. And be, it fimhcr enacted, That the commission ers for the said county of Butler, be and they are here by authorized to appoint a person or persons, for the purpose of receiving the amount of money, herein above specified, whose duty it dball be when mowed, to expend and appro priate it, towards the draining of a certain pond of water, situate on the said fractional sections, herein a ed, and it shall be the duty of the said person or persons so appointed, at the time he or they shall receive the said sum of money, to give to the said Treasurer, bond with security in double the amount of the sum received, conditioned for the faithful application of the money so received, to u limin ing of me said pond, and that he or they will well and truly apply, and expend the said money' towards draining the said pond, within such time as the said commissioners may require, and to make report of his or their proceedings and doings to the commmsioners of the said county ot Butler.
