Excerpt from A Virgin Widow, Vol. 2 of 3: A Novel When you are not present, mamma always calls you Mrs Moping, said the little tease. And is that a sufficient reason why you should indulge in the same absurd epithet, Gerty? Call me what you may, my child, in words emanating from your own loving heart, and I should not be discomposed, but do not sting me by reiterating the title Mrs Townsend has thought proper to circulate throughout the Castle. The Halakhah embodies the complete Jewish Law, and contains commandments and guidelines for day-to-day living. The original commandments given by God to the Jewish people were enhanced by rabbis to offer a detailed framework to guide the lives of all Jews. In this complete, all-encompassing encyclopaedia of the Halakhah, the various laws are classified in such a way that a systematic and coherent structure is obtained. Each entry of the Halakhah is presented in a logical fashion. Where applicable, the original biblical wording is given, extended with literal abstracts from the Torah. Next, problems and questions that may arise from that law are stated and any additional information given. Finally, each entry gives comprehensive explanations and recommendations as to how these laws are to be observed in daily life – where to be and where not to be, what to do and what not to do, what to say and what not to say. The Halakhah, or standard Jewish Law, combines the Mishnah (about 200 CE), the Tosefta (about 300 CE), and the two Talmuds (about 400, 600 CE for the Land of Israel and Babylon, respectively). Volumes I and II contain entries pertaining to the Jewish people in relationship to God. Volume III explains how the Jewish people can restore and maintain their society in accordance with the Torah as it is explained by the rabbis. In Volumes IV and V of this study, we take up the life of the Jewish household in their encounter with God. The Encyclopaedic account therefore moves from regulating relationships between Israel and God to establishing stable and equitable relationships among Israelites and finally to actually living the Halakhah.

Excerpt from A Wily Widow, Vol. 1 of 3 'Yes, Brown, you are right. It will make a deal of difference who gets the place. Well: good-night.' With his great-coat collar turned up high about his ears (for the October night was cold) Dr. Gregg descended the steps of the South Western Bank, Lynham; and directed his steps towards his own house at the other end of the street. Brown was quite right. It would make a deal of difference who got the place. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. These studies in early church history cover various aspects of the church life of early Christians. They focus on the second century. What did the second century Christian leaders say about faith, baptism, infant baptism, worship services, the Lord's Supper, prayer, singing, church organization, mercy and the role of women? New Testament texts bearing on the topic are listed at the beginning of each chapter. We are talking about the same community of people, the same church, as existed in the New Testament. Such writings have an important bearing on the interpretation of the Scriptures.

"A History of Matrimonial Institutions" is a book based on the author's belief that a thorough understanding of the social evolution of any people must rest upon the broader experience of mankind and that the human family, in particular, with all that the word connotes, is commanding greater attention. Accordingly, in the first part the attempt is made to present a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the literature and the theories of primitive matrimonial institutions, while the second and the third part feature the history of matrimonial institutions in England and in the United States._x000D_ Volume 1:_x000D_ Analysis of the Literature and the Theories of Primitive Matrimonial Institutions:_x000D_ The Patriarchal Theory_x000D_ Theory of the Horde and Mother-Right_x000D_ Theory of the Original Pairing or Monogamous Family_x000D_ Rise of the Marriage Contract_x000D_ Early History of Divorce_x000D_ Matrimonial Institutions in England:_x000D_ Old English Wife-Purchase Yields to Free Marriage_x000D_ Rise of Ecclesiastical Marriage: The Church Accepts the Lay Contract and Ceremonial_x000D_ Rise of Ecclesiastical Marriage: The Church Develops and Administers Matrimonial Law_x000D_ The Protestant Conception of Marriage_x000D_ Rise of Civil Marriage_x000D_ Volume 2:_x000D_ History of Separation and Divorce under English and Ecclesiastical Law:_x000D_ The Early Christian Doctrine and the Theory of the Canon Law_x000D_ The Protestant Doctrine of Divorce_x000D_ Law and Theory during Three Centuries_x000D_ Matrimonial Institutions in the United States:_x000D_ Obligatory Civil Marriage in the New England Colonies_x000D_ Ecclesiastical Rites and the Rise of Civil Marriage in the Southern Colonies_x000D_ Optional Civil or Ecclesiastical Marriage in the Middle Colonies_x000D_ Divorce in the American Colonies_x000D_ A Century and a Quarter of Marriage Legislation in the United States, 1776-1903_x000D_ Volume 3:_x000D_ A Century and a Quarter of Divorce Legislation in the United States:_x000D_ The New England States_x000D_ The Southern and Southwestern States_x000D_ The Middle and the Western States_x000D_ Problems of Marriage and the Family:_x000D_ The Function of Legislation_x000D_ The Function of Education...

A Noble Queen is a novel written by Philip Meadows Taylor that illustrates one of the most important epochs in the history of the Dekhan. The book features the life of the noble Queen Chand Beebee whose memory is reverenced, not only as the preserver of Beejapoor, but for the heroic resistance she made to the Moghul armies in their first invasion of the Dekhan and siege of Ahmednugger.
