Shades of Sexuality: Colors and Sexual Identity in the Novels of Blaise Cendrars, by Amanda Leamon, is currently one of the few studies on the modernist poet and novelist Blaise Cendrars to be written in English. Of interest to scholars of Cendrars, Modernism, Twentieth Century French Literature and early Twentieth Century Art and Humanities, Shades of Sexuality is unique among the growing body of criticism and analysis of Cendrars' fiction in that it explores the ways in which Cendrars makes use of the spectrum of fragmented colors and other elements of disguise and trompe-l'oeil, both as an artistic device in the construction of the fictional tekst, and as a recurrent motif in the representation and exploration of the male subject and his relation to woman. The author demonstrates how Cendrars effects intersections of gender in the tekst through the manipulation of colors and their associations with femininity, ultimately undermining the illusory façade of male autonomy which dominates his fictional corpus.

The essential guide to giving your baby the best possible start in life. Why bother making your own baby food when there are so many choices conveniently located at your grocery store? Unfortunately, many people don’t realize just how easy (not to mention economical!) it is to make your own. Armed with a steamer, a blender and a little planning, in one afternoon parents can prepare a month’s supply of healthy, wholesome meals for their infants and toddlers -- food that’s bursting with nutrition and flavour. By introducing your baby to a wide range of fresh, stimulating tastes and textures, you will help establish healthy eating patterns they will follow into adulthood. Recipes such as Vegetable Ragout, Broccoli Risotto, Chicken Apple Delight and Gourmet Tuna Melts, all kid-tested and mom-approved, are grouped according to age: four to six months, six to eight months, eight to twelve months and twelve to twenty-four months. And most of the recipes are designed to be prepared in advance and frozen in single servings. It couldn’t be easier to provide your baby with great taste, freshness, variety and balanced nutrition. It’s also important to note that none of the recipes in this book contains any added salt or sugar, not to mention the starches and fillers found in many commercially prepared jarred varieties. The Baby’s Table was co-written by a teacher and a medical doctor, in response to patient demand and their own needs as parents. Creative recipes that stress the importance of whole foods and fresh ingredients, in combination with current medical/nutritional information that complies with the Canadian Paediatric Society’s guidelines, make this book the most comprehensive resource available for practical advice on feeding your baby. Your baby’s nutrition is critical for growth and development. Making your own baby food is a fun and cost-efficient way to participate in your baby’s health, offering the widest variety of textures and flavours, as well as many other nutritional advantages not available in commercial baby food. Give it a try and watch your little one grin from ear to ear! Also included are weekly and monthly meal-planners, growth and development charts, and detailed information on relevant topics such as: • Breastfeeding • Weaning • Formulas • Vitamin supplementation • Timing of introducing new foods • Food allergies and intolerances • Omega-3 fatty acids • Choking • Iron deficiency • Fluoride use

The hilarious first novel by the #1 bestselling author of Running with Scissors, Dry, A Wolf at the Table, and You Better Not Cry, Sellevision is Augusten Burrough's darkly funny and vastly entertaining skewering of a very troubled home-shopping channel. Welcome to the world of Sellevision, America's premier retail broadcasting network. When Max Andrews, the much loved and handsome (that is, lonely and gay) host of a "Toys for Tots" segment, accidentally exposes himself in front of millions of kids, Sellevision faces its first big scandal. As Max struggles to find a new job in television, the popular and perky host Peggy Jean Smythe is receiving sinister emails from a stalker. Popping pills and drinking heavily, she fails to notice that her husband is spending a lot of time with the young babysitter who lives next door. Then there's Leigh, whose affair with married Sellevision boss Howard Toast is going nowhere until she announces their relationship on air. A blistering satire of our overcharged, scandal-obsessed world, Sellevision is "an absolute howl . . . wicked fun" (New York Daily News).

“On questions of how to live, the French never disappoint. . . . Maybe it all starts with childhood. That is the conclusion that readers may draw from Bringing Up Bébé.” —The Wall Street Journal “I’ve been a parent now for more than eight years, and—confession—I’ve never actually made it all the way through a parenting book. But I found Bringing Up Bébé to be irresistible.” —Slate The runaway New York Times bestseller that shows American parents the secrets behind France's amazingly well-behaved children, from the author of There Are No Grown-ups. When American journalist Pamela Druckerman had a baby in Paris, she didn't aspire to become a “French parent.” But she noticed that French children slept through the night by two or three months old. They ate braised leeks. They played by themselves while their parents sipped coffee. And yet French kids were still boisterous, curious, and creative. Why? How? With a notebook stashed in her diaper bag, Druckerman set out to investigate—and wound up sparking a national debate on parenting. Researched over three years and written in her warm, funny voice, Bringing Up Bébé is deeply wise, charmingly told, and destined to become a classic resource for American parents.
