AS I intend this Grammar to be generally useful, and that the Nature of the Adverb is not very well understood by those who are not converfant in Grammar, I find myself under an indispenfable Obligation (that I may comply with what I have proposed) to give a Definition of this Part of Speech: It declares then the Manner of the Action of the Verb in Verbs Active and Neuter, as, I lovefincerely, amo sinceramente; I run swiftly, corro ligeramente; where sincerely and swiftly shews the Manner how you love, how you run 5 it shews also and determines the Manner of suffering in the Verb Passive, as, I am heartily hated, I am violently abused, lam wrongsully accused, I am unjustly persecuted, by which Examples you may perceive i is to the Verb what the Adjective Adjective is to the Substantive. Adverbs differ from Nouns in this, that the latter are declinable, the former are not. They are divided into sundry Classes, as Adverbs of Time, de Tiempo; Adverbs of Place, de Lugar; of Quantity, de Quantidzd j of Quality, de Calidad; of Negation, de Negation; of Affirmation, de Affirmation; of Augmentation, de Augmentation; of Diminution, de Diminution j of Moderation, de Moderation; of Excess, de Ex ceso; of Doubting, de Duda; of Uniting, de Union; of Comparing, de Comparacibn; of Order, de Or den; of Calling, and of Interrogation, de Llamamiento, y de Interrogasion.
