Excerpt from History of the Class of Nineteen-Hundred and Fourteen, Yale College, Vol. 1 Sensing that for the most part class histories are either not read at all or are merely superficially glanced over by each individual to satisfy himself that his name is inscribed in all the rolls of honor it properly should be listed in, be it known that the aim of the present writer has not been for accuracy in cataloguing all the celebrities of the Class of 1914 who heeled the News or played on the Freshman Gym team, but rather to give a brief summary of the more striking incidents of our stay on York Street that might prove palatable reading in the years hereafter. Tradition and convention hold such sway over the majority of Yale's entering classes that it is but seldom that the recorder of the events of Freshman year has the opportunity to immortalize in literature anything of an original character. The Class of 1914 seems to be the exception that proves this rule, and, ergo, it would seem a shame to sacrifice this space to an uninteresting if more vanity-satisfying list of members who entered the arena of extra-curriculum activity at the expense of omitting a description, however inadequate, of the thrilling exploits connected with Hartenstein, Mr. G., and the chief of the New Haven police force. Excerpt from The Record Nineteen Hundred and Thirty-Seven: The Annual Publication of the Senior Class In return, we twice dragged the whole loc to Founders Hall for more intimate connection. Everybody invited his major professor, and much good work was put in easily and painlessly. The evenings were ones of hysterical appreciation of jokes, then songs and speeches, and general ill feeling. Very occasionally the faculty provides something besides food in their little intimate connection gatherings outside classes. The Hot sons, for example, provide Art - almost any kind will do, but most of all they love antiquated music. Dr. Steere will drag any number at any time to Pendle Hill. Mr. Williamson will go horseback riding with you, and Dr. Lunt and Professor Swann will play tennis. If you really wanted to, there's no reason to believe that Professor Post would refuse to let you dig in his garden, but probably no one ever asked. Some of the faculty have hobbies, and you can talk sailing with Dr. Snyder and Dr. Palmer, or stamps with Dr. Herndon. In fact, you could do all sorts of things with the faculty. That is, if you ever wanted to. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Book of the Class of Nineteen Hundred and Twelve Murmurs of approval were heard about the room. Truly, a fine youth, came from the Even side; and even the Odds were graciously pleased to pronounce him an honest fellow. Presently h resumed his narrative: It is an incident greatly to be remembered that for me there were no Fresh men Rains. I made my appearance freshly, in the garb of a sunny morning, undaunted, unafraid. The Office held no terrors for me. The Advisors were as if they had never been, for indeed I changed classes and schedules and hours at will. Even from Freshmen Frolic, I emerged starched and smiling - a feat, good sirs, I would challenge any of you, with all due respect to your age and great Wisdom, to accomplish. At Sophomore Reception, I again shone, my rosy cheeks and chubby arms enticing all who saw, or sought to see, me in the whirl. Thus it is plain that long before Mountain Day, I had become a sturdy young child, able to hold my own among companions, yet not lacking in that deference which is befitting toward greater years and added gray matter - which last shall be shown hereafter. Excerpt from History of the Class of Nineteen Hundred and Ten, Yale College, Vol. 2 Beware of the historian who would persuade you that his book is up to date. Trust him no further than you trust the timetable that pretends to be revised and corrected up to day before yesterday. History, as the world has learned to its bewilderment since August, 1914, is subject to change without notice.
