For forty years, James Finley’s Merton's Palace of Nowhere has been the standard text for exploring, reflecting on, and understanding the rich vein of Thomas Merton's thought. Spiritual identity is the quest to know who we are, to find meaning, to overcome that sense of “Is this all there is?” Merton’s message cuts to the heart of this universal quest, and Finley illuminates that message as no one else can. As a young man of eighteen, Finley left home for an unlikely destination: the Abbey of Gethsemani, where Thomas Merton lived as a contemplative. Finley stayed at the monastery for six maturing years and later wrote this Merton’s Palace of Nowhere in order to share a taste of what he had learned on his spiritual journey under the guidance of one of the great religious figures of our time. At the heart of the quest for spiritual identity are Merton's illuminating insights—leading from an awareness of the false and illusory self to a realization of the true self. Dog-eared, tattered, underlined copies of this book are found on the bookshelves of retreat centers, parish libraries, and the homes of spiritual seekers everywhere. This anniversary edition brings a classic to a new generation and includes a new preface by Finley.

"Who really am I?" This question may be the root cause of all questions you may have asked. Questions such as: Why do I always fail? Why do I keep acting this way? How come life is a struggle for me? Why is it that I have everything and still I'm not happy? I know I need to change, but how do I do it? These questions have no racial barrier. They don't care whether you are black, white, or Hispanic. These questions can care less if you're poor, middle-class, or rich! These questions are rooted and grounded in the hearts of men like green grass is rooted and grounded across the earth. In today's society, the masses of men are being held captive by a self-imprisonment called an "identity crisis." I've experienced the worst of both worlds, a spiritual prison within myself and a natural prison behind real bars. It wasn't until I made my mind up to simply be a free man by awakening the true man on the inside of me. How? By discovering who I really am. In this mind-renewing book, you will discover that true freedom will exist in your life when you discover who you really are. This book was written behind the dark walls of prison while sitting on an old ice cooler. For a number of months, as chapters went by, you were on my mind while writing this book of change. I must say that this book is designed for men who are tired of being tormented by living a lifestyle of not knowing who you are. Keep in mind that the key to having a fulfilled abundant life is when you discover who you really are. Then, and only then, will you stand boldly as the super hero that you were created to be. And God will say boldly "This is a man after my own heart."

Book to the Future is a historical and faith-based account of how what we do and allow today will affect tomorrow. It is an attempt to hold conditions of our ti mes up to the light of truth and standards for all times. Just as a seaman relies upon the North Star, and weights and measures have to be re-calibrated for correct readings, mankind has to have standards for a moral compass. We're at a time where people are being misled to do what's right in their own eyes. We have thousands of different church denominations and doctrines-one denomination claims to have the right answers over all the others, and there's no common ground. Proverbs 3:7 says, "Be not wise in your own eyes: fear [revere] the Lord; and depart from evil." Can you imagine a country where every individual is allowed to pledge to their own self-made banner? That would be chaos. The American flag signifies one nation, the United States. In God's kingdom, there is also one banner, Jesus Christ. If we denounce the American flag, we are denouncing our citizenship. Likewise, if we denounce Jesus as savior (not prophet) we are denouncing our citizenship in Heaven. It's been said, what one generation does in moderation, the next does in excess. The more we continue to lower God's standards as set forth in the Bible, the more we fall into immorality. Just look around at where we are today! If you were able to go into a future devoid of God's standards, would you know enough about His standards to help others re-calibrate? The Bible is to us what an owner's manual is to a car. If you want to know more about your life and what you can do for our posterity, read it and try to live it to the best of your ability. Make a difference in your own circle of influence.

"One day Iversen heard about a severely autistic nonverbal boy in India whose mother had taught him to read, write, and communicate. Soma Mukhopadhyay's methods were unorthodox, and her tools surprisingly simple - just a piece of cardboard with the alphabet written on it - but her achievement was astonishing: not only could Tito communicate, but he had an IQ of 185 and wrote beautiful poetry. Iversen realized that Tito could provide an unrivaled window into autism, and she organized a visit to the United States for the boy and his mother and arranged for some of the country's top scientists to study him." "Strange Son is the account of these two families and how their personal journeys into autism intersected for a time and allowed Tito to explain to scientists the startling differences in his sensory perception, giving them insights that reframed the very definition of autism, and challenging everything we thought we knew about it."--BOOK JACKET.
