When retirees decide to travel in their golden years, most people sign up for a tour where everything is planned for them, including airline tickets, hotels, meals, and sightseeing. What they do not know is that there are many advantages to traveling without a tour guide and a set itinerary. In A Perfect Trip to Italy—in the Golden Years, author and avid traveler Sharon Wilson shares practical tips and advice for those who want to make travel a real adventure without worrying about where they will sleep, eat, or catch the next bus or train. This volume concentrates on Italy and the cities of Florence, Venice, Rome, and Tuscany. Wilson outlines useful information for choosing the right travel companion, planning the itinerary, preparing for departure with passport and money, and arranging day trips. She also includes an Italian food vocabulary, a list of useful words and phrases, packing tips, and sample recipes. A Perfect Trip to Italy—in the Golden Years shows that enjoyable travel is still possible over sixty when the joints and bones are aching—neither age nor arthritis need be an obstacle.

Travel Italia is a must-have gift for anyone interested in Italy or in the art and design of the poster. Organised by region, it features Italy's foremost tourist destinations by drawing on an unparalleled collection of over 150 vintage posters and paintings from 1920 through 1960 commissioned by the Italian National Tourism Agency. Each vibrantly coloured, hand-rendered poster design features a particular destination, ranging from the main art cities (such as Florence and Bologna) to lesser known alpine jewels (such as Cadore and Dobbiaco). Commissions for poster art creation were given to well-known artists of the time, such as Mario Puppo, A.M. Cassandre, and Mario Borgoni, among others, and many of their dazzling works are featured in these pages.

Download American Powerboats: The Great Lakes' Golden Years 1882-1984 Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This look back at the great boatbuilders that sprung up on the shores of the Great Lakes stretches from the first use of internal combustion for marine applications in the late nineteenth century to the early-1960s, when wooden construction was increasingly replaced by fiber-glass and aluminum, and on to the early 1980s. More than covering lovely mahogany runabouts, this work also includes chapters on racers and cruisers/commuters. In addition to familiar names like Chris-Craft, Hacker, Century, and Lyman, there are also less frequently covered boats from names like Richards, Matthews, Burger, and Tiara. The final chapters explore the use of non-wood materials. Detroit was the epicenter of early-20th century boat-makers using engines from the nation's nascent automotive industry. Boat-makers, however, did not cluster as tightly around that city as did auto manufactures; they were found from the Thousand Islands of Lake Ontario to Chicago and Duluth. Despite this regionalism the Great Lakes builders, more than any others, influenced the entire world's power-boating community.

Download Golden Years of the National Symphony Orchestra Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Golden Years of the National Symphony Orchestra: Stories and Photographs of Musicians and Maestros presents a rich and intimate perspective of the orchestra as it evolved in prominence and international expanse throughout the past nine decades. Through hundreds of stunning photographs captured by NSO violinist William Haroutounian, the tenure of seven NSO conductors, major guest artists, and NSO members are brought to life, giving a rare and exciting glimpse of musical life on stage, backstage, and on tour. Alongside these photographs are experiences from the members themselves, pieced together by Joanne Haroutounian. Humorous stories of mishaps during rehearsals and performances balance with some of the most historically significant moments in classical music history—from Mstislav Rostropovich’s return to Russia with the NSO and sheer excitement of the mobs to the sudden death of Gina Bachauer minutes before she was scheduled to perform in Athens. The book memorializes this rich and varied history and will enhance an appreciation for concert life.
