The guidance in this volume is intended to support planning activities related to contaminated sediment assessments such that the relevant data are likely to support sediment management decisions at the site under investigation.

Contaminated sediments represent an ongoing threat to the health of aquatic ecosystems. The assessment of sediment quality is, therefore, an important concern for environmental regulators.
