Excerpt: ...and is frequently so found in certain, especially more ancient, passages, as Num. 23, 8.--2) The suffix of the fern. sg. is derived from-hd, concerning which cf. . 449, but always toneless, ii, tT eha with a sharp e before the gutt.; instead of the concurrence fi aha however, Pi dh is used always without exception, and even sometimes for that which dh is a shortening of that original and general aha.--3) In the pi. msc. and fern., tefi and fir are indeed the basis; but as the gutt. n easily becomes vocalic, they become first toneless, in such a manner that the affix-vowel accommodates itself to the gutt., as Cj!i, but this is then almost regularly contracted into Q--, fern. (see . 421). It is to be observed, however, that the Poeis have often retained the more original form 'V3 for on account of its sweeter cadence; only in Ex. 15, 5 V2 after u, for md, in the word WDS? 3 pi. imperf. Piel with the suffix. 2. 35 is found as a firm consonant for n in the second pers. of all suffixes, concerning which cf. $.449;--1) sg. msc. T-r more rarely Ii3r accord, to . 153; still accented, but yet shortened once (Hos. 4, 6 K'tib, even written remarkably T)N) to-dh, the vowel getting before the cons. . 60, as constantly happens in Aramaic.--2) fem. sg., but without the tone "0 which form is only found complete in the later writers Psl l37, 6 cf. 2Kgs. 4, 7. Jer. 11, 15. Ps. 103, 3. 4. 116, 19; the vowel at the end has usually intruded before the cons., as T 60.--3) pi. msc. and fem. Qp, 15-r, constantly with a very strong toue, so that the preceding fragmentary vowel is compressed as much as possible. 3. First pers.
