John Cruger (ca. 1678-1744) was possibly an immigrant from England, Holland or Germany; he had relatives in England, recorded his family records in Dutch in a Dutch Bible printed in Holland, and since 1875 some researchers have claimed him to be a descendant of the Baron von Cruger of what came to be Germany. John Cruger married Maria Cuyler on 5 March 1702/1703 in New York City, and when he died, he was buried in the Old Dutch Church in New York City. Descendants and relatives lived in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, South Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Washington, Oregon and elsewhere.
