A lifelong pattern of use and abuse finally caught up with Dr. A. C. Gross when she was forty-three years old. She had been using drugs and alcohol to fix herself for as long as she could remember. Now, in You Can Trust MeIm a Doctor, Gross shares the story of her addiction and her journey to recovery. In this memoir, she describes growing up in a respectable, middle-class, Californian household where she was introduced to alcohol at a young age. She had her first taste of alcohol at age nine and first experienced being drunk at age fourteen. During her twenties, Gross tells how she continued to drink and experiment with drugs despite her rigorous studies. With her compulsive personality, excessive drinking and reckless use of pills became a constant part of everyday life. In 2004, with her physicians career in jeopardy and her family life unraveling, Gross was forced to seek help. Recovery was her next step, but it was not easy. She narrates how it took her nearly ten months to realize that recovery involved surrender of the old self to the will of God. You Can Trust MeIm a Doctor tells Grosss story of learning a new way of life.

Dr. Bachow spent her childhood in the inner city, growing up in the Brooklyn projects. Blessed with the necessary academic skills and personality, she fought her way out of her humble beginnings to achieve a level of success that she had never thought possible. Not surprisingly, over the years she became accustomed to the accolades of achievement while standing on life's pedestal in both social and professional circles. Then suddenly, it was all taken away. A monster called multiple sclerosis unceremoniously pushed her off her perch, and she found herself facing the world once again as an average person--a patient. This book describes the rise and fall of Dr. Bachow's world as well as its ultimate salvation as she gets used to the seat on the other side of the doctor's desk.

Writing this book has been a very essential part of my recovery. Except for my son, doctor, and finally, my Mom, there was no one I had chosen to confide in. Putting my own experiences down on paper gave me a chance to not only relive the experience and face the uncertainties, but to understand my motivation for doing it. Writing this book was an emotional lifeline for me and its been a wonderful outlet. Also, where else could I have expressed the joy of going from a size 22 to 16 in two months? Since no one knew I had the surgery, this book was the one place whereI could shout. This book was also written with others in mind. There may be those who felt as I did. Theyve secretly dreamed of undergoing the procedure because they were just as unhappy with certain aspects of their bodies as I was. Theyve squirreled away some money in the hopes that one day they might also take the next step. There are also those who have taken that step. I hope my words help someone else whos alone with their thoughts and pain as Ive been, give them a much needed mental hug, and let them know that someone else had undergone what they are considering or are now enduring. At those times, when I was most vulnerable, I kept telling myself that there would be people reading my words and saying to themselves, "This is normal. Kathyne went through this too, so I wont worry." Am I am glad I did it? Would I do it again?

My Doctor Said, “Trust Me” by Beth Bach Beth Bach had a passionate zeal for living and for adventure that has characterized her entire life. This very zeal supported her as arthritis began to consume her knees, requiring bilateral knee replacements. In My Doctor Said, “Trust Me” Bach describes the painful repercussions that haunted her when these surgeries were performed poorly. She struggled to regain the full use of her knees. Abandoned by her doctors, Bach had no alternative but legal recourse. Bach hopes that her testimony will inspire young physicians to always retain the sense of compassion and empathy that initially attracted them to the medical field. She understands that mistakes can happen, but thinks that all parties benefit most when these problems are candidly discussed with patients and their families.

What will the bastards do to me?This irreverent and confrontational romp through Dr Phil's alleged career starts off with scary scandals but ends up with some surprisingly useful tips on how to avoid doctors if you can and use them if you can't.Trust Me, I'm (Still) a Doctor is one book you can't afford not to read!
