An intensive cultural resource inventory was conducted on approximately 8200 acres of federal land adjacent to Lake Oahe in Emmons and Burleigh counties, North Dakota. Seventy-two sites and 23 isolated finds were recorded. Seven sites are believed eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. Further work is necessary to determine eligibility at 29 sites. Preliminary sites patterning studies indicate that the modeling of site location is possible with a high degree of accuracy. It is believed that such modeling would be of use for long-term and short-term management and research concerns.

An intensive cultural resource inventory was conducted on approximately 13,200 acres (5280 hectares) of federal land along the right bank of Lake Oahe within Morton and Sioux counties, North Dakota. As a result of this inventory, 57 sites and 20 isolated fins were recorded. Eight of these sites are believed to be eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. The site patterning analysis demonstrated that location of prehistoric cultural resources are predictable to a fairly high degree (approximately 75 percent). It is suggested that the mathematical model developed from this analysis may be of use for developing management strategies and for research. (FR).

In 1986 Larson-Tibesar Associates conducted an intensive cultural resource inventory of approximately 10,500 acres along portions of the west bank of Lake Oahe in Corson and Dewey counties, South Dakota for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District. The inventory resulted in the investigation of 44 archeological sites which included the recording of 16 new prehistoric sites, 15 new historic sites, two new sites with both historic and prehistoric remains and 27 isolated finds and the reinvestigation of 11 previously recorded sites. Historic components were added to four previously recorded sites (39C019, 39DW240, 39DW242, and 39DW256). The new sites consist of historic and prehistoric artifact scatters, historic depressions, foundations and cemeteries and a few rock cairns. Prehistoric diagnostic artifacts indicate an occupation of the project area from Paleoindian to the Extended variant of the Coalescent Tradition. The evidence for preceramic occupations within the project area comes from a few isolated finds and a burial recovered in 1979 from 39DW35. One site, Molstad Village, is a National Historic Landmark, five sites are considered eligible, 22 components at 20 sites and all 27 isolated finds are not considered eligible.

An intensive cultural resource reconnaissance (Class II Inventory survey was conducted by the Archeology Laboratory, Augustana College, along stretches of the west bank of Lake Oahe in Stanley and Dewey counties, South Dakota. The area surveyed was over 11,550 acres. Thirty-five sites were recorded in Stanley County; three have both aboriginal and historic components. Ten sites were recorded in Dewey County, two of which have both prehistoric and historic components. Recorded sites include Initial Middle Missouri, Extended Middle Missouri and Extended Coalescent villages, as well as many unassigned aboriginal artifact scatters. Euro-American occupation of the area is documented in the site record, usually in the form of depressions with associated historic debris scatters. The majority of the sites recorded during this survey in Stanley County are surface manifestations evaluated as having minimal research potential. The Dewey County sites are potentially eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
