Having myself adopted it as a text-book in the study of them at the Hospital of St. Louis (well known to be specially devoted to these dis eases in Paris), and having also since used it in several successive courses of lectures on the subject in this city, I need hardly say that I fully coincide with Dr. Burgess in his opinion as to its merits. The present edition has been carefully compared with the original, and numerous omissions supplied of passages which the translator thought proper to omit, but which it is thought, both in justice to the authors and to render the work more complete, ought to be restored.
