This collection of poetry speaks to a very common theme of real human experiences, and they are just a small part of mine. I expressed how I felt like an outsider, then realized, it's not always bad to be unusual. Me and my children suffered the utmost tragedy of being separated over my naivety, and the intentional betrayal of a neighbor I considered a friend. It's about loving someone and discovering you both want something totally different. Our circumstances are not who we are. They are not a direct reflection of our whole being. For anyone who has had to experience incarceration for any amount of time can understand where I'm coming from in two of these poems. It's when the reality of the utter loneliness of being forcibly ridden of the things that are often taken for granted put you in touch with the peace that you can only find within yourself. I also believe in owning my feelings and not allowing others to trample my trust with lies. These writings are a liberation of all the labels, assumptions, and character assassinations that haunted me for so long. The love my mother and father gave me is what I cling to. Even when you may think you have failed, you must keep reaching and know how to grasp opportunity. We all need strength to maintain. I hope that you will discover something within these pages that can help change your life in a positive way.

Autobiographical sketches and stories from India's best-loved writer in English. For over four decades now, by way of innumerable short stories, essays, poems and novels, Ruskin Bond has championed simplicity and quietude in life and in art. This collection of essays and episodes from his journals is, in his own words, "a celebration of my survival as a freelance'. The author's early forays into the literary magazines of the 1950s and '60s are described in the first part of the book, along with some examples of his work at the time. The sections that follow contain extracts from an unpublished travel journal he kept during the '60s, episodes from the highways on which he was a frequent traveller, and vignettes of life in Mussoorie, past and present. With understated humour and compassion, Ruskin Bond records the charming eccentricities of friends and acquaintances (a former princess cheerfully obsessed with death and disaster); the silent miracles of nature ("New moon in a purple sky'); life's little joys (the smell of onions frying) and its fleeting regrets. Nostalgic and heart-warming, full of wisdom and charm, The Lamp is Lit provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of "our very own resident Wordsworth in prose.

In Round, she writes: "Let's get married, Rita says. / She puts her head in Jimmy's lap, / nuzzles his balls through his underwear. / The guy on the ropes goes down. / He pushes her away. / Her voice / in his ear now, drowning out / the count. Marry me, Jimmy. / He sees the crowd / on its feet, screaming, / him just lying there."

A Little Book of Poetry: For When Night Seems Dark is a collection of powerful and moving poems which remind us that although we will have difficulties in this world, we are not alone, unseen, or forgotten. That although at times we may feel like a small, insignificant being in this giant universe, we are of great importance to the One who created us. That in this world, we will experience joy and sorrow, tears and laughter, beginnings and endings, but with God at our side, we need never be without hope. This Little book is made up of 26 poems, each accompanied by a Bible verse and an original, full-color illustration.

The "World" in Robert Lee Brewer's Solving the World's Problems is a slippery world ... where chaos always hovers near, where we are (and should be) "splashing around in dark puddles." And one feels a bit dizzy reading these poems because (while always clear, always full of meaning) they come at reality slantwise so that nothing is quite the same and the reader comes away with a new way of looking at the ordinary objects and events of life. The poems are brim-full of surprises and delights, twists in the language, double-meanings of words, leaps of thought and imagination, interesting line-breaks. There are love and relationship poems, dream poems, poems of life in the modern world. And always the sense (as he writes) of "pulling the world closer to me/leaves falling to the ground/ birds flying south." I read these once, twice with great enjoyment. I will go back to them often. -Patricia Fargnoli, former Poet Laureate of New Hampshire and author of Then, Something
