The first four generations are nearly full; the multiplication of families, however, became so rapid and the descendants so numerous and so widely separated that it was found impracticable to follow them with any degree of accuracy, and only a few single lines of prominent personages are given in appended notes in the fifth and sixth generations. It will be noted, however, that after the fifth generation the record in one line is complete. Close kinship has greatly facilitated this and rendered it comparatively an easy and a more satisfactory work. The meagerness and incompleteness of old records, as well as many contradictory statements, all apparently well avouched, will be sufficient explanation for the many imperfections that may appear.
