"Compensation for an injury sustained at work in New South Wales is available under the statutory workers compensation scheme. The statutory scheme is governed by two principal Acts, the Workers Compensation Act 1987 (the 1987 Act) and the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998 (t̜he 1998 Act). These Acts also provide for numerous Regulations and other statutory instruments. Together, these Acts provide the legislative framework for the statutory workers compensation scheme in New South Wales. The 1987 Act generally sets out the monetary benefits under the NSW workers compensation scheme and what circumstances bring an injury within the workers compensation scheme. The 1998 Act generally sets out the procedures for obtaining those benefits and for the effective management of injuries within the workers compensation scheme"--Introduction.
