Young people in this study reported significant and positive change in public identity, skills, knowledge, and engagement. Four organizational features influenced youth's learning: organizational commitment, relationships, participation, and content. Organizational attention to these features allowed youth to overcome background differences and enter a cycle of participation and learning. Connection with the broader public, central across these dimensions, facilitated youth's learning and allowed CBYOs to resist becoming insular.
