Unremarkable In Light Do you believe the old adage that whatever does not kill you will make you stronger? Earl believes this but his belief has never been put to any challenge until now. This is Earl's story of resiliance and recovery. He is a grown man now but as a child Earl's abusive step father came very close to ending his young life. The abuses and long healed scars that Earl and his mother suffered then still haunt him today more than thirty years later. This is the story of how even the most quiet voice has a story of triumph to share. From those dark days of his youth until now Earl has lived a simple and solitary life. He lives alone, has a few good friends, and has always worked his same job with quiet diligence. Earls quiet and undisturbed life is about to take a turn. Family friend Ben is having some very troubled times of his own. Ben is the son of the woman who salvaged Earls own childhood so many years earlier. Ben has no choice but to turn to his friend Earl for help. Is Earl strong enough to be of help to Ben? Can his own childhood and adult experiences guide him to help Ben and Bens young son James through this turmoil that they are now facing? Can he let go of his deep want for seclusion in his isolated lifestyle and let them in? Earl and Ben and James boldly forge a new future together and find comfort through past shadows that have brought them to this uncertain present. Only from their darkest moments are they able to find strength and to envision the remarkable future they may have ahead together. This is a story of recovery from the unseen scars of childhood which can last long into adulthood. More than that it is a story of the whispered triumph of the love that binds people together to become family.

This is essentially a love story of the Great War inspired by a recently unearthed family collection of more than 100 letters, running to more than 240 pages, written between 1915 and 1919 by Fred Allwood to his sweetheart Phyllis James. What these letters offer us is incredible detail about the life that he led for over 3 years on the Western Front. Written as historical fiction, the main characters and events are portrayed with historical accuracy and Fred's letters, with their minutiae of detail, are woven into the story in their original form. His words tell the story, not of the fighting and the dreadfulness of the conflict but of his love, his doubts and his fears. The story traces four principal characters, real people from the Kalgan River near Albany in Western Australia, and tells of how the war impacted on them all and those around them. I am aware that other authors have drawn on primary sources to tell of such war experiences but by creating a narrative from real events and including such a volume of primary material I hope this work will bring a different perspective to such an immense event that is looming in our consciousness with the approach of the ANZAC centenary in Australia. Forensic psychiatrist Dr James Carter meets a woman on a train, apparently randomly, and she offers him an alternative to a life that he is finding rather dull. This alternative, however, leads to two murders, one in Baltimore, the other in his flat in Bath, and forces him into a search for justice as he becomes a fugitive and a prime suspect for both murders, a situation for which he is totally unprepared. There is nothing in his past to prepare him for dealing with this situation except his natural charm. He is unfit, middle-aged and totally out of his usual environment, but he is capable of using his charm to extricate himself from seemingly impossible situations. He finds himself involved in a world of blackmail, theft, gun running and intrigue involving people in high office. There seems to be nobody he can trust until, by chance, friends he had thought unremarkable come to his aid and provide the answers he needs to solve the crimes and establish his own innocence. As a result, there is an unforeseen outcome that changes his life entirely...

From the globally bestselling author of The Witcher comes the final book in the rich historical epic, the Hussite trilogy. Join Reynevan—scoundrel, magician, possibly a fool—as he embarks on a last great adventure across the war-riddled landscape of 15th century Bohemia. After his adventures in The Tower of Fools and Warriors of God, Reynevan is on the run again, harried by enemies—some human, and some mystical—at every turn. These are cruel and dangerous times for a man such as Reynevan, and to survive, he must set aside his history as a peaceful healer and idealist and play the brutal role of Hussite spy as crusades sweep through Silesia and the Czech Republic, and the world around him is forever changed. Praise for the Hussite Trilogy: “A ripping yarn delivered with world-weary wit, bursting at the seams with sex, death, magic and madness.” —Joe Abercrombie "This is historical fantasy done right." —Publishers Weekly (starred review) “A fantastic novel that any fan of The Witcher will instantly appreciate.” —The Gamer “Sapkowski's energetic and satirical prose as well as the unconventional setting makes this a highly enjoyable historical fantasy.” —Booklist Translated by David French By Andrzej Sapkowski: The Hussite Trilogy The Tower of Fools Warriors of God Light Perpetual Witcher collections The Last Wish Sword of Destiny Witcher novels Blood of Elves The Time of Contempt Baptism of Fire The Tower of Swallows Lady of the Lake Season of Storms
