God could have called thinner, younger, and wiser people for this journey to China, but He chose two Cracked Pots. This is a story of encouragement; a story of love; a story of hope; a reminder that God has a plan and purpose for every person and perfection is greatly overrated

The Healing Heart provides powerful examples of the use of stories and storytelling in encouraging resiliency, empathy, respect, and healing. These engaging books contain stories, and narratives about the use of the stories in activities with different populations (children, teens, those with disabilities, seniors, inmates, etc.) or which address specific social or community problems (addictions, poverty, violence, racism, environmental degra-dation, homelessness, abuse). The books are a collective effort containing the expertise of more than 60 storytellers and health professionals who illustrate the power of story in moving others to commitment and action, in building self-esteem and mutual respect. The Healing Heart ~ Families focuses on families, dealing specifically with healing through story, health promotion, disease prevention, early childhood intervention, children with medical problems, adopting families, schools, sexual identities, grief, and spiritual healing. The Healing Heart ~ Communities focuses on community-building, with sections on youth, violence prevention, poverty, domestic violence, substance abuse and addiction, racism, elders, culture, environmental protection, homelessness, and community development. Allison Cox is a therapist and Prevention Specialist, in Tacoma, Washington, with 20 years experience as a professional storyteller, and is a founder of the Healing Story Alliance—part of the National Storytelling Network. David Albert is a storyteller, writer, and Senior Planner and Policy Analyst with the Washington State Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, and a contributor to Spinning Tales, Weaving Hope (New Society, 2002).

We hear a lot about the gospel of success, whether from Christian or New Age sources. But most of us are more accustomed to failure, or at least not reaching our hopes. Which, surely, is at the heart of the life of Jesus and his message. This book is a radical departure from much of what modern day Christianity (and gurus of all kinds) seem to offer. Rather than seeing Christianity as a group of people trying to change themselves into the ideal, it describes how such a practice is precisely what Jesus came to liberate us from.

How can you really make a difference for your students? Teaching Tough Kids delivers a refreshing collection of realistic ideas to sustain the organisational and behavioural transformations of all students, particularly those who 'do it tough'; who learn and react differently. They are complex kids who find life tougher than most. Managing their emotion and behaviour presents educators with a spectacular challenge in schools today, and numbers are on the rise. Filled with inspirational case studies, this book focuses on building improved relationships, structures and behaviours, rather than seeing the student as 'the problem' that must be fixed. Highlighting the value of promoting positive connections with students of all ages, the author presents ways to incorporate inclusive ideas into everyday practice and construct pathways for students to become engaged in their learning and achieve success. This stimulating book shows teachers how to: build student connectedness to learning; set achievable goals for each individual child; support emotional stability; strengthen organisation patterns; address behavioural issues; improve homework planning; create friendships and deal with bullying. Teaching Tough Kids takes a particularly close focus on students identified with Learning Disability, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Asperger Syndrome. Another group of students with executive functioning difficulties are emerging in schools. These are the kids who have endured neglect or too much stress and uncertainty in their lives and as a result display classic symptoms of hyperactivity, hyper vigilance and impulsivity. Teaching Tough Kids will be of immense interest to teachers, student teachers, staff in Pupil Referral Units, SENCos and all those involved with Behaviour Support work.

Lloyd looks out of his office window and sees the airplane hit the WTC. Eric comes out of the closet to tell about his gay life, Bob gives us an insight into the life of a Moonie, the surgeon general of the United States receives her walking papers from the president, childhood memories of nonsensical rhymes, neighborhood stories, a little gossip, and a few smoke dreams are but a few of the memories included. Many events are true stories as told to me by the original source, and others are hearsay. Some stories have been passed down through generations, becoming memories as they traveled. Credit to the original author has been acknowledged where possible. Any omission of credit to an author is unintentional. Some material was checked on Google, but the source was not always available. Real names have been used where permission was granted and pseudonyms for others. A small part of these memories appeared in This I Remember, a self-published memoir.
