Excerpt from The Teacher's Encyclopaedia of the Theory, Method, Practice, History and Development of Education at Home and Abroad, Vol. 5 of 7 The articles dealing with the Health of the Child which occupied Vol. IV. are completed in this volume, and fitly conclude with an article on School Architecture, to which an interesting supplement on Science Laboratories is appended. The remainder of this volume is devoted to School Organisation and the description of various Types of Schools. It opens with an article on the Elementary School Curriculum, contains a brief account of the Scotch Day School system, and then deals with schools which have been selected because of special features. Of these useful articles probably the one that will attract most attention is that dealing with the Jesuit System of Education, followed by a description of Stonyhurst. We have here an authorised pronouncement on the methods of education adopted by the Jesuits, which have long been the admiration of Europe, and their special aims. It will be of interest to compare this article with those in the first volume dealing with ethical and religious training and with the remarks in the Introduction dealing with the question of religious and ethical training. Excerpt from The Teacher's Encyclopaedia of the Theory, Method, Practice, History and Development of Education at Home and Abroad, Vol. 7 of 7 In this, the concluding volume, will be found some articles dealing with the training of the teacher, teachers' organisations, and some very interesting suggestions by Professor Adams for a teachers' library, but the greater part of the volume is taken up with the history of educational thought by Professor Darroch. This subject has been so handled as to form a complete text-book. The preceding volumes have been occupied with the discussion of various educational problems in their modern and practical aspect. The history of educational thought has been reserved until the last volume, so as to weld together and place in their proper relation to the past the many subjects discussed and the views expressed in the earlier volumes.
