Download New York State Responds to the Latino HIV/AIDS Crisis and Plans for Action Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
From January-December 2009, the Latino Commission on AIDS conducted 28 bilingual community consultations throughout New York to better understand how HIV/AIDS and other health challenges are currently affecting New York's Latino communities. By working with community partners across the state, the Commission engaged individuals living with HIV/AIDS, service providers, community advocates, peer educators and community gate keepers familiar with the needs of Latino populations to participate in this process to identify priorities and develop recommendations for improving existing services. The goal of New York State Responds to the Latino HIV/AIDS Crisis and Plans for Action is to provide us all with an opportunity to respond with action to the health crisis generated by HIV/AIDS and better educate our legislators, our state and local health departments, our community based organizations and ultimately Latino communities. This report is meant to serve as a resource and a tool kit. It can inform program design as well as further communication between people living with HIV/AIDS, client advocates, service providers, decision making bodies, and elected officials about the needs of Latino communities in regard to HIV prevention and linking Latinos living with HIV/AIDS to quality services.
