Excerpt from The Spirit of Missions, Vol. 9: Edited for the Board of Missions of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America It was, indeed, a high festival to the Church tn the United States. An Ameri can Episcopate was secured at last. Two native citizens were duly consecrated by the archbishops and bishops of England, successors of the apostles of the Lord. At the instance, not of the Church at large in America, but of the Clergy of Connecticut, the Rev. Dr. Seabury had previously been induced to repair to Eng land for consecration. But as the administration had some apprehension of em broiling themselves with the American government, the sovereignty of which they had so recentlv acknowledged, and as the bishops were doubtful how far an act of some clergymen, in their individual capacities, would be acquiesced in by their respective flocks, Dr. Seabury did not receive his Episcopate in England, but applied to the non-juring bishops of Scotland, and in November, 1784, was conse crated by them at Aberdeen. Earth is rising in the House of Voltar . . . And there’ll be hell to pay! That’s right. The invasion is on . . . and it’s coming soon to a galaxy near you. The action couldn’t be hotter, and the plot couldn’t be more diabolical. Earth is coming to Voltar—and the Voltarians won’t know what hit them. Murder, blackmail, drugs, psychoanalysis, PR firms, sex-crazed teenyboppers, riots in the streets, women in chains. These are the powerful secret weapons of war—perfected on Earth and imported to Voltar—which are now being exploited by the ruthless Lombar Hisst, chief of the Coordinated Information Apparatus (the infamous CIA). His obsession: total domination of the Voltarian Confederacy. Can anyone stop the madness? Does anyone have the courage and charisma to crash this party? Enter Royal Officer of the Fleet, Jettero Heller. Dodging Death Battalions and death warrants, he’s racing from Earth to face the challenge. But Hisst has taken Heller’s beautiful sister hostage, and she may be the one who has to pay the ultimate price of VILLAINY VICTORIOUS. “A superlative storyteller with total mastery of plot and pacing.” —Publishers Weekly

The Church with a Human Face: A New Expanded Theology of Ministry elaborates historically and theologically the main line of his argument. It further includes reactions and reflections on criticism he received. The work outlines the evolution of ecclesiastical office, starting with Jesus Christ and his messianic community, followed by a description of the practice and theology of ministry in the early Christian communities, and tracing different forms of ministry in the history of the Church. Of particular interest is the section on the 'Complaints of the People', which deals with the discontent of many connected with the position of women and married priests. As long as women are not allowed to participate fully in the decisions of the Church, Schillebeeckx argues, they will not be liberated, and their complaints will remain a fundamental charge that challenges the church.
