At the mansion extravagant hospitality was once dispensed. House parties feasted, danced, hunted, marveling at the surrounding wilder ness and the luxury that had invaded it. But the mar quis has ended his adventurous life in far away Africa, the great buildings are abandoned, like the foolish scheme that demanded them, and serve only to bring to mind a man whose fine riding and personal bravery were his most conspicuous virtues.
