Excerpt from The Primitive Christian's Estimate of War and Self-Defense "Let us now bring this question of non-resistance to the practical test, the experience of the primitive ages of the Christian Church. I take for granted that no one can doubt the following positions of principle and fact: First. The Christians had a dear right to the enjoyment of all the privileges and advantages of the communities in which they lived, and this right is equally sustained by reason, natural justice, and religion. Second. The heathen rulers were utterly unjustifiable in depriving the primitive Christians of those privileges and advantages; still less had they a right to persecute and destroy them for being Christians. Third. The heathen rulers acted the part of despots and oppressors to the primitive Christians. Fourth. The primitive Christians were subjected for their faithfulness, most wantonly, unjustly and cruelly, to sufferings scarcely surpassed by those predicted to the Jews in case of their disobedience. If ever men had a right to rebel and employ an armed resistance, it was these primitive disciples. Their enemies were equally the enemies of God himself. The rights invaded were not the creations of society and protected by human constitutions, but were the gift of God, and secured by the New Testament, the great charter of Christian rights. Yet they did not rebel, they did not resort to an armed resistance. And why not? Simply because they knew that such means were inconsistent with the Christian character. Were they restrained by fear? No one can allege that. Were they restrained by calculations of the probabilities of success and failure? None can suspect that. Were they restrained by personal and selfish considerations? Who is so ignorant or so reckless of truth, as to bring such an accusation against men who counted life, liberty, property, domestic enjoyments, and social intercourse as the very dust under their feet? The primitive Christians did not then resist their oppressors by rebellion and with the sword, simply because they knew these to be Unchristian Means." - Grimke. Called "a pioneer work of the first importance" by Staughton Lynd, this book traces the history of pacifism in America from colonial times to the start of World War I. The author describes how the immigrant peace sects-Quaker, Mennonite, and Dunker -faced the challenges of a hostile environment. The peace societies that sprang up after 1815 form the subject of the next section, with particular attention focused upon the American Peace Society and Garrison's New England Non-Resistance Society. A series of chapters on the reactions of these sects and societies to the Civil War, the neglect of pacifism in the postwar period, and the beginnings of a renewal in the years before the outbreak of war in Europe bring the book to a close. The emphasis on the institutional aspects of the movement is balanced throughout by a rich mine of accounts about the experiences of individual pacifists. Originally published in 1968. 'Hands to War' is a self-defense book for Christian families. The book clarifies misconceptions some Christians might have regarding their right/obligation to defend themselves, and their duty to protect their families. The book teaches Martial Arts, Boxing, Fencing, and Close Quarters Combat in order to produce a well rounded fighter capable of adapting to any situation. After learning the basics of the different fighting styles, the reader is taught how to easily master weapons such as the Knife, Sword, Sai, Nunchaka, and Tonfa - by building upon the skills they have already learned. The use of handguns in home defense is also covered. An entire chapter is dedicated to the Use of Force and the Inherent Right of Self-Defense. This book provides information on becoming a hard-target against terrorists and criminals. It teaches Christian self-defense principles combined with real world self-defense skills that the author has taught to America's war-fighters in a combat zone and internationally.

Excerpt from The Old Paths, or the Primitive Doctrine of a Future Life: Embracing Copious Extracts From the Writings of Primitive Christians, With Arguments and Remarks To this class of persons we appeal from the decls1ons of the prejudiced, and from the false accusations of those who are wiser in their own conceit than seven men who can ren der a reason. We ask that the question may be examined in the pure light of the word of God. We ask that it may be investigated by persons possessing the heads of men and the hearts of -clz7istian8. But we would extend the influ ence of the Gospel of Christ still farther, and endeavor by manifestation of the truth to commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. And as most of the objections of unbelievers in revelation are made to use the Words of Locke against Christianity misunderstood, it will perhaps lead them to a more favorable Opinion of the doctrine of Christ, when they learn that the strength of their objections lies against the traditions of men, retbet than 'the truths of God. Excerpt from The Manners and Trials of the Primitive Christians The Author of the following Volume was led, several years ago, to direct his attention to the Christians of the three first centuries, under the impression, that if ever pure and genuine Christianity existed to any great extent among men, it would be found exemplified in the character and state of those who were contemporaries of the Apostles, or lived in the age immediately succeeding. The interest of the study increased as he advanced; and he felt, that while there was a great deal to admire, and some things also to condemn, these inquiries into the habits and state of the primitive believers, formed altogether one of the most delightful and improving pursuits in which he had ever engaged.
