As only a few were present at the meeting of 1897, and as it was felt that an expression of Opinion from the whole Class should be obtained, a circular was issued Jan. 24, 1898, asking for the views of the Class on the subject and for subscriptions to carry out the project. As indicated by the answers to this circular, the preference of the majority was for a gate, and was pledged for its erection.
