Excerpt from The Narrative of Ebenezer Fletcher: A Soldier of the Revolution Ebenezer Fletcher, the author of the following narrative, was the son of John Fletcher, and was born in New Ipswich, in the State of New Hampshire, on the fifth day of February, 1761. His mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Foster. She was the daughter of Abijah Foster, a farmer of New Ipswich, and one of the first settlers of the place. After receiving the rudiments of a plain, common school education, our author, when about fourteen years of age, was placed under the care of Samuel Cummings, of New Ipswich, who built and then owned the mills at Mill Village.
