The publication of this work was, we might say, forced upon us by the demand, before even a page of manuscript was prepared for the press. The demand was caused by members of the Temple, who recognized the necessity of a printed text book, from which they could study the meanings of the cards and their indications under the seven planets. These brothers and sisters naturally wished to perfect themselves in emblem reading as rapidly as possible, and they could not so perfect themselves, without a full and complete set of tables that they could study and refer to at will. The next trouble that arose was the question of expense, as, aside from the printing, engraving, binding, electrotyping and matters of that kind, the author's time was, and is now so valuable that the item far overbalances those mentioned. It was finally decided that the most feasible plan, was to get out enough copies to supply more than our immediate membership and to sell them to outsiders under certain restrictions.

Praise for Mystic Pieces: "Mystic Pieces is a charming, humorous, and original mystery that weaves a tale of murder and self-discovery with heart, family, and psychic visions." - Reader's Favorite "This was a solid start to this paranormal cozy mystery series. I had fun reading this one. I liked the inclusion of Aly's psychic powers and how she tried to use them to help solve the mystery. It made sense how she got involved and how she went about figuring out who had done it. And I liked how natural and realistic instead forced some of the coincidences felt. The mystery kept me guessing, although the murderer wasn't too big of a surprise there were some nice twists along the way and I was never quite sure who the murderer was. I liked Aly as a main character and reading about her and her powers. I liked the side characters and how each had their own personality that made it easy to remember. All in all I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series!" - Lola's Book Reviews "A cute and cozy introduction to the quirky and devoted characters, Mystic Pieces is the perfect first installment to the Shady Grove Psychic Mystery Series." - Literary Lioness

Ways in Mystery presents a rare occurrence in the field of religious publishing. In this boisterous field, few original voices are heard in our time. Luther Askeland's first book is a signal event for, in these essays, we hear the voice of a modern prophet and the "way of unknowing" -- a path to wisdom that is not easy to initiate, difficult to pursue, and returns, time and again, to the place of beginnings. Askeland receives the wisdom of the past for his profound meditations on the possibilities and pitfalls of a mystical life in the midst of our contemporary world. Drawing from the teachings of Indian saints such as Shankara, of Christian mystics such as Meister Eckhart and St. John of the Cross, and from Buddhist sages such as Zen Masters Dogen and Tanzen. A thoughtful, wise, and illuminating guide, Askeland carefully and systematically describing the inherent limitations of linguistic mapping within our ordinary experience, revealing the higher mystical states of awareness, to take us beyond words and philosophical concepts.

Mystical experience is not really understood in our modern Western culture, but we have a rich history and traadition that can be traced from remote ages to the present day. It is a phenomenon common to all religions and races, differing in manifestation, but sharing a similar foundation#8212the realization from personal experience that all things are interdependent, that the source is One. The mystical experience is often brief, immediate, maybe mysterious#8212a last experience that rbings all-embracing emotion (love) into the bounds of concrete reality. Bruno Borchert brings mysticism into sharp focus by exploring ideas and concecpts from world religions and explaining Christian mystics in history, in perspective, and through art. He takes us from Zoroaster to European alchemists, explores the Hellenistic world, the feminine world-view, and the experience of God shard by saints and well-known mystics such as St. Theresa and St. Francis. Modern approaches explored by psychologists like Jung and Maslow, and the contemporary search for mystical love make this a necessary book for people who want to understand the spiritual path.
