Jele served the CCAP Synod of Zambia from 1981 to 1988. From 1984 to 1988 he served as the first General Secretary of CCAP Synod of Zambia. With the death of John McCracken in 2017, Malawi lost a pre-eminent historian. This book celebrates McCrackens contribution to the study of Malawis history and seeks to build on his legacy. Part of his genius was that he identified themes that hold the key to understanding the history of Malawi in its broader perspective. The authors contributing to this volume address these themes, assessing the progress of historiography and setting an agenda for the further advance of historical studies. The book is a valuable resource for students, researchers and all who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of Malawis past and present.

The book "Mateus Pinho Gwenjere: A Revolutionary Priest" depicts the life story of a Catholic priest from central Mozambique who in 1967 joined the Mozambique liberation movement, FRELIMO, in Tanzania, and was abducted from Nairobi, Kenya by the FRELIMO government agents in 1975 and summarily executed. Since his life was intertwined with the Catholic Church and the struggle for independence, the book also deals with such. The book sheds light on his religious thoughts as well as on his social and political activities. According to him, the Catholic Church in Mozambique was divided into two Churches: Mgr Gouveia's "Salazarist Church" which defended the interests of the Portuguese colonial regime and Mgr De Resende's "Prophetic Church" which defended the Mozambican people's rights to self-determination. "The Church cannot only have mystical concerns. It should also be concerned with social issues ... The Portuguese missionaries are harming Christianity by failing to fulfill the mission entrusted on them by the Church", he told his audience at the United Nations in New York in 1967.He was involved in the struggle for independence as soon as he was ordained to priesthood, defending people's rights, their culture, and their language; mobilizing people for civil disobedience, notably exhorting people to refuse to grow cotton and to be forcefully removed from their lands; and sending Mozambican youths to Tanzania to join FRELIMO. The book is an appeal for the healing of wounds and for a genuine reconciliation among the Mozambican family, which necessarily entails the FRELIMO government revealing where Father Gwenjere and other nationalists, notably: Rev. Uria Simango, Paulo Gumane, Lázaro Nkavandame, Dr. Joana Simeão, and many others, were executed and buried so that their relatives can accord them a suitable burial.

'I cannot afford to be a participator, by passiveness in such stupendous and widespread wrongs as I perceive are being abundantly inflicted upon the African race. Hence my appeal...to the British Queen and Government...that "Africa for the African" be made a reality as far as each has the power to bring it about.' Joseph Booth penned his appeal in 1897 in protest of the racist stereotpying of the Africans by the colonisers; and witnessing the unjust and inhumane exploitation of the native peoples, for the sole benefit of the Europeans. He drew his ideas from the social and political messages he inferred from the Gospel and his appeal was published only thirteen years after European leaders met in Berlin to divide up the African continent. The book, which was not welcomed by the colonial government in Malawi was first published in 1897 in the US and is now republished in Malawi. Laura Perry reproduced the text of Booth's second edition, compared it to the first edition and added explanatory footnotes.

Macleard Banda is a third born son of Mr Simeon Banda of Chimdidi Village Traditional Authority Wimbe, in Kasungu. He attended his Primary school at Kasakula Primary school in Ntchisi. In 1978 he went to Lunjika Secondary School and concluded his secondary school education at Robert Laws. In 1988 went to Karonga TTC for Primary Teacher Training. He taught at Malamulo Primary school from 1990 to 2000. In August 2000, went to Solusi University for BEd majoring in Religion. In July 2002 he was posted to Matandani Secondary School to teach Bible Knowledge. In 2006 he received his MA from the University of Malawi and in 2014 his PhD from Mzuzu University. He is the Director of Research and Publication at Malawi Adventist University. The missionary work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church started in Southern Malawi in 1902, and histories of churches are usually told from that starting point. This book uses a different approach, it tells the story of Lunjika Mission (earlier called Mombera Mission) which begins in 1932, showing how the SDA Church met a new culture, that of the strongly patrilineal Ngoni and their neighbours to the North, and how it dealt with other churches that had started missionary work in that broad area up to two generations before.
