Robert Powell uncovers a secret stream of wisdom that flows through the heart of Christianity --the feminine principle, known in Greek as "Sophia," the being of Holy Wisdom herself. This sacred embodiment, named in the Old Testament as the first living being made by God, has comforted and guided seekers of truth in every age and in every human culture. Powell surveys the wonders and teachings associated with this unacknowledged treasure of Christianity's mystical past --a stream running from the Greek philosophers and King Solomon through the cosmic visions of Hildegard von Bingen, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the relation of Sophia to Mary the mother of Christ. The Sophia Teachings provides accessible and informative insights into the being of Sophia --generally overlooked by modern, patriarchal Christianity and misinterpreted by new age and and other movements that often trivialize the meaning and purpose of this significant cosmic entity.

With careful exegetical work, Lucy Peppiatt considers relevant passages in Ephesians, Colossians, 1 Peter, 1 Timothy, and 1 Corinthians. There she finds a story of God releasing women alongside men into all forms of ministry, leadership, work, and service on the basis of character and gifting, rather than biological sex.

Isis Magic: Cultivating a Relationship with the Goddess of 10,000 Names enables the many women and men who are today exploring Goddess spirituality to build a relationship with the Divine Feminine by focusing their exploration through the worship of one of the most well-known and well-loved Goddesses of all time: the Egyptian Isis. Today, as in ancient times, Isis, known as the Goddess of Ten Thousand Names, can become for Her devotees the One Goddess Who is All Goddesses. Isis Magic begins with a well-researched and in-depth history of the nature and worship of Isis from Her ancient Egyptian origins to the modern day. In the first part of the book, readers discover the many faces of Isis, from Ancient Bird of Prey Goddess and Lady of Magic to Queen of the Mysteries and Savior. Readers will learn how Isis later became disguised as a Black Madonna, a historical Queen of Egypt, and even as an Alchemical Principle--as well as how Her true identity as a Goddess was retained in the inner teachings of secret societies. Finally, readers follow Isis into the 20th and 21st centuries as Her undisguised worship is revived, first by colorful personalities like Dion Fortune and influential groups such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and today by worldwide associations like the Fellowship of Isis. The book's second part applies this knowledge to a four-part spiritual journey to the heart of the Goddess. With each step, the reader enters a successively deeper stage of relationship with Isis. By participating in exercises, meditations, and powerful, beautifully written rituals, readers can initiate themselves into the magical religion of Isis and become, if they so desire, a dedicated priestess or priest. Written by M. Isidora Forrest, an ordained Priestess of Isis and Hermetic Adept, Isis Magic brings the worship of Isis to life. It is the perfect resource to aid the individual seeker, to inspire a circle, coven, or Iseum, or to serve as a program of spiritual growth and personal development for those called by Isis to be Her priestesses and priests.

Exalted for centuries as a hero and author of the Bible, Moses is inseparable from biblical tradition itself. Moses is also an inherently ambiguous figure and a perennial focus of controversy, from ancient disputes of priestly rivalry to modern issues of class, gender and race. In Rewriting Moses, Brian Britt analyses elements of polemic and ideology in the Moses of the Bible, of film, novel, visual art and scholarship. He argues that the biblical Moses lives within writing, while the post-biblical Moses lives more often in biography. Yet later rewritings of Moses refract biblical traditions of writing in surprising ways. Rewriting Moses provides an original account of the Freudian insight that traditions preserve what they repress. This is volume 14 in the Gender, Cutlure, Theory series and is volume 402 in the Journal for the Study of the Old Testament Supplements series.

Connecting with us in our modern world, the Ancient Egyptian Goddess, Isis, provides us with practical guidelines for working through our difficulties and utilising the current wave of growing awareness to better our lives. By applying this information daily we can easily shift into a higher state of human reality, replete with many new-found psychic skills. In these Isis communications, Divine Mysteries and Universal Truths are revealed, and we learn to instantly manifest whatever we choose, to communicate telepathically, and to see and feel energy - just as we are supposed to be able to do. We can replace pain, ill-health, failure, crime, war, poverty and unhappiness with joy, peace, mutual co-operation, compassion, happiness and love. Consequently we flourish at every level and enjoy the all-encompassing abundance that we easily create in our lives, in harmony with the Earth. Key to this new heart-based reality is learning to live with balanced masculine-feminine energy, releasing what no longer serves us and having compassion for all of life, beginning with ourselves. As we make progress individually we impact upon the whole of humanity due to the positive knock-on effect of our own higher frequency resonance. Isis teaches us how the world becomes a better place as we grow personally from within. The purpose of this is to help us to flow with the pre- and post-2012 shifts, so that we can expereince the evolutionary changes of the shifted dimension experience: our new heart-based reality. Reading the Isis communications instantly creates a positive vibration within us, and making use of her teachings and healing methods allows us to more easily tolerate the difficult times of the present and of the next few years - so that we may pass through into the Golden Age on Earth. Before we can access the peaceful times that certainly lie ahead of us, both Earth and humanity have to release all the low frequency energy fields out of their physical bodies. This energy was created over a long period of time and the release mechanisms of Earth are both powerful and catastrophic. The Earth events, which intensified in the first quarter of 2011, indicate that we are living at a critical time on Earth. It is because we all have a natural creative potential that each one of us can make a difference by contributing our own love and healing into the collective consciousness. This enables each member of humanity to live the positive experiences we have created for ourselves, if they choose to do so. Therefore, our personal progress supports the Earth and other people. In this way we make this period a little less difficult for everybody, including ourselves. This summarises why the Angelic Light Beings are working with us at this time, in support of humanity. This Isis book is the first of her two books detailing the Isis Mysteries. They follow on from the first book in the Ancient Wisdom series, Book One: The Upliftment of Consciousness, which details the teachings and wisdom of Osiris. The Horus books will be published as Book Four and onwards.

Scholars are divided in their views about the teachings on riches in 1 Timothy. Evidence that has been largely overlooked in NT scholarship appears in Ephesiaca by Xenophon of Ephesus and suggests that the topic be revisited. Recently dated to the mid-first century C.E., Ephesiaca brings to life what is known from ancient sources about the social setting and cultural rules of the wealthy in Ephesus and provides details that enhance our knowledge of life and society in that place and time. In this volume, Hoag introduces Ephesiaca and employs a socio-rhetorical methodology to explore it alongside other ancient evidence and five passages in 1 Timothy (2:9–15; 3:1–13; 6:1–2a; 6:2b–10; and 6:17–19). His findings augment our modern conception of the Sitz im Leben of the wealthy in Ephesus. Additionally, because Ephesiaca contains some rare terms and themes that are found in 1 Timothy, this groundbreaking research offers fresh insight for biblical reading and interpretation.

How have the goddesses of ancient myth survived, prevalent even now as literary and cultural icons? How do allegory, symbolic interpretation, and political context transform the goddess from her regional and individual identity into a goddess of philosophy and literature? Emilie Kutash explores these questions, beginning from the premise that cultural memory, a collective cultural and social phenomenon, can last thousands of years. Kutash demonstrates a continuing practice of interpreting and allegorizing ancient myths, tracing these goddesses of archaic origin through history. Chapters follow the goddesses from their ancient near eastern prototypes, to their place in the epic poetry, drama and hymns of classical Greece, to their appearance in Platonic and Neoplatonic philosophy, Medieval allegory, and their association with Christendom. Finally, Kutash considers how goddesses were made into Jungian archetypes, and how some contemporary feminists made them a counterfoil to male divinity, thereby addressing the continued role of goddesses in perpetuating gender binaries.
