This book provides an up-to-date overview of the development of the German financial system, with a particular focus on financialization and the financial crisis, topics that have increasingly gained attention since the crisis and the discussion on the secular stagnation started. The authors of the book—economists who have conducted extensive research in this area—offer a perspective on the financial system in the context of its importance for the overall economic system. The book not only provides detailed insights into Germany’s financial system; it also takes a broader perspective on finance and connects it with current macroeconomic developments in Germany.

Download History and Financial Crisis Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
One striking weaknesses of our financial architecture, which helped bring on and perhaps deepen the Panic of 2008, is an inadequate appreciation of the past. Information about how the system functioned and the reliability of organizations and institutional controls were drawn from a relatively narrow group of recent examples. History and Financial Crisis: Lessons from the 20th Century is an attempt to broaden the range of historical sources used by policy makers to understand and treat financial crises. Many recent discussions of the 2008 panic and the economic turmoil have found the situation to either be unprecedented or greatly similar to that of 1931. However, the book's wide range of contributors suggest that the economic crisis of 2008 cannot be categorised in this way. This book was originally published as a special issue of Business History.

Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: 1,7, University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart, language: English, abstract: For the last couple of years the world has been experiencing one of the most severe financial crises ever which has been often compared to the Great Depression from 1929. Starting with the Mortage crisis in the USA in 2007 and the collapse of Lehman Brothers in September 2008, this problem increased to the worst global economic crisis ever. The negative effects of the Global Financial Crisis from 2007-2009 are both financial and real. The financial impact of the crisis resulted in problems in the banking systems of many countries. The real impact was that the economic growth has slowed down. The crisis bought many challenges and questions concerning the ability of the industries in the national economies to survive, the destiny of the employees and the role of the government in current market situation. However, the crisis might create opportunities for some industries if the companies don ́t let themselves to be misled by the general negative moods towards the current state of the market. Download Financial Crises, Sovereign Risk and the Role of Institutions Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The recent world economic crisis showed very clearly that financial crises and sovereign defaults are severe threats to economic and social prosperity. In addition, it became apparent that currency crises and banking crises often occur together and are closely related to sovereign debt crises and defaults. The present book contains new research on various important issues related to financial crises and sovereign default risk by leading experts in the field. The book discusses new modelling approaches to financial crises, defaults and their interdependencies. It also sheds light on the consequences of different sorts of crises for the trust in the institutions which are concerned with managing them. Moreover, it provides discussions of several institutional features of the EMU and the world financial system and in particular the risks inherent in these institutions. The book also includes interesting suggestions for solving crises and improving financial stability.

Download Invested Narratives Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
German economic crises from the past two hundred years have provoked diverse responses from journalists, politicians, scholars, and fiction writers. Among their responses, storylines have developed as proposals for reducing unemployment, improving workplace conditions, and increasing profitability when stock markets tumble, accompanied by inflation, deflation, and overwhelming debt. The contributors to Invested Narratives assess German-language economic crisis narratives from the interdisciplinary perspectives of finance, economics, political science, sociology, history, literature, and cultural studies. They interpret the ways German society has tried to comprehend, recover from, and avoid economic crises and in doing so widen our understanding of German economic debates and their influence on German society and the European Union.

Download Germany Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This paper evaluates the risks and vulnerabilities of the German financial system and reviews both the German regulatory and supervisory framework and implementation of the common European framework insofar as it is relevant for Germany. The country is home to two global systemically important financial institutions, Deutsche Bank AG and Allianz SE. The system is also very heterogeneous, with a range of business models and a large number of smaller banks and insurers. The regulatory landscape has changed profoundly with strengthened solvency and liquidity regulations for banks (the EU Capital Requirements Regulation and Directive IV), and the introduction of macroprudential tools.

Download Risks and Benefits of Economic Interventionism by the German Government During the 2007-2009 Financial Crisis Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 1,7, University of Applied Sciences Riedlingen, language: English, abstract: 1. Introduction The global financial crisis that became obvious in the summer of 2007, led to a severe economic crisis about one year later. It was mainly caused by the bankruptcy of "Lehman Brothers", one of the largest US investment banks, which was forced to file for liquidation after suffering huge losses in the mortgage market and resulted in millions of additional unemployed all over the world, in both developing as well as highly developed countries. Within weeks the Dow Jones Index fell from over 11,000 to below 7,000 points while the German stock market index, DAX, fell from 7,500 to below 4,000 points. The apparent helplessness of economists at that time forced the German government to implement strong interventions in the economic market. This paper deals with the risks and benefits of interventionism during the 2007- 2009 financial crisis, using the example of Germany.
