The goal of many evangelical educators is to facilitate biblical thinking and the worldview transformation of their students. Yet, aside from upholding a set of moral behaviors or maintaining positions on issues perceived to be "Christian," the goals and aspirations of most evangelical young people differ little from their unbelieving peers. As George Barna has noted, "We have a generation coming up that . . . isn't looking at Christianity to answer spiritual concerns . . . We either change or we lose them." Worldview as Worship contends that the approach taken by most evangelical educators to the issue of worldview transformation has neglected to address two fundamental components of worldviews. First, that our initial worldviews are not philosophical systems but rather faith dispositions and that worldview transformation cannot simply present the biblical worldview as a more rational or logical system, but must address issues of the heart as well as the mind. Second, unlike philosophies that are individual, worldviews are communal and are learned and transformed within the context of community practice. Appealing to Paul's teaching in Romans 12:1-2, Worldview as Worship approaches the "renewing of your mind" as the result of the believer's presentation of themselves as a "holy sacrifice . . . which is your spiritual service of worship." The book advocates an approach to worldview transformation that focuses on believers as apprentices rather than simply as students--an approach that holds true to the biblical model of discipleship. As a result, worldview transformation works best when the application of faith to the issues of learning and life are modeled by the faith community and where students are given the opportunity to put faith into practice.

Practicing faithful discipleship means focusing on the daily aspects of Christian education in the local church, within its structures, and through faithful ministry. Through Bible-based truths and helpful insights, Discovering Discipleship identifies principles that provide the Christian educator with an overview of the significant aspects of faithful discipleship. Effectively organized into four areas--definitions, dynamics, design, and practice--authors Dean Blevins and Mark Maddix offer readers an approach to discipleship that seeks to honor God, understand our role in the contemporary world, and guide persons and communities according to Kingdom principles. In this honest exploration, readers will find a new perspective on discipleship that will help them dig deeper and develop a long-lasting and effective practice of community formation and faithful discipleship.

A leading Christian educator offers a practical guide for revisioning a church's educational program. After identifying the weaknesses in current education programs, Charles Foster offers an alternative vision that is more cooperative, more attentive to the whole of the congregation's life, and that helps people critically correlate the Bible and Christian tradition to their own experience.

Beyond Christian Education is about raising up committed servants of Gods Justice and Peace. Our present efforts at nurture in the local church are suffering from ineffectiveness. The time has come to go beyond what we have known as Christian Education and bring about a more effective approach called Christian Nurture. This book is a call to nurture a deeper connection with the source of the power in the persons relationship with God as well as what it means to be a loving servant. Through solid grounding in theology and a functional understanding of the dynamics of nurturing Christians, the Nurture approach brings together teaching and essential spiritual guidance. The approach emphasizes the role of the whole congregation in nurture and a stronger focus on the place of the home as a foundational locus of nurturing Christians. It proposes a balanced curriculum including inner formation, traditioning, prophetic sensitivity and servanthood. These emphases become a source of creativity in the congregational environment, the home, intentional nurture experiences and servanthood immersions. Beyond Christian Education is important reading for local churches concerned about the future of their efforts at nurturing Christians.
