Excerpt: ...embrasures of several of the batteries at Talhada are so badly constructed and narrow that I have no doubt after two or three rounds they will fall in and choke up the gun, which would occasion great delay to clear away the rubbish. Each battery has two or three artillery men, and the remaining detachment for fighting the guns consists of Ordenanzas, or the armed peasantry.
