Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 15: A Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery; July, 1899 Antipyreti'cs are the remedies with which We reduce temperature and when we come to consider the fact that nearly all diseases with which we meet are accompanied with more or less fever, we at once see that these remedies have a wide field of usefulness in therapeutics. Notwithstanding the fact that some diseases may run a long and fatal course without' fever, we will always find the careful physician taking the tempera ture of his patients often, and when he finds any considerable rise above the nor mal, some antipyretic is usually given. This practice may be, and I believe is, the proper one to pursue in most cases, the mis take we usually make, I think, is in the selection of an antipyretic. Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 8: A Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery; January-June, 1896 If we select for instance the germs, which give rise to tetanus and culture them, and then separate by a process of filtration the microbes themselves from the beeftea or the blood serum, which we employed for their culture, as the soil is used for the raising of plants from seeds, a great difference will be found between the effects of the bacteria themselves, when introduced into the animal economy, and the uid, in which they had multiplied. For provided this experiment is done under proper aseptic precautions, so as to insure freedom from the admixture of other germs, the injection of the micro-organisms themselves may scarcely give rise to any phenomena, but that of the uid will develop the symptoms of poisoning, and under certain conditions, which to -consider here would lead us too far astray, give rise to the disease of tetanus. Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 16: A Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery; January, 1900 If the inflammation is due to gonorrhea, puerperal or other sepsis, the symptoms are very much more severe, and the physician is apt to be called. Whatever the cause may be the symptoms are more or less severe as the inflammation involves the cervix, the body, or both. There is usually more or less menstrual derangement, in which the flow may appear too early, be deferred, or be too scant, or too free; the only regular ity being its irregularity. Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 32: A Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery; January-June, 1908 This somewhat typical onset is so slightly characteristic to the patient and his family that malignancy is not at first thought of, therefore I wish to emphasize the import ance in just such cases, that the physician should think of malignant new growth of the stomach, and begin to observe the case from this point of View, till satisfied as to the proper diagnosis. Two symptoms of special importance de mands now some attention. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
