Excerpt from The Bulletin of Pharmacy, Vol. 29: A Live Magazine for Druggists; February, 1915 Announcement No. 6 Prizes Offered for Papers on Prominent Men as Customers of My Store. We offer one prize of for the best paper, and and $5 00 each for the second and third best papers, on Prominent Men as Customers of Mv Store. This subject is also full of great interest. If you are located in the city of Washington, or at any of the State capitals, you have doubtless had many public men as patrons of your store. If you do business in Indianapolis, Boston, or any number of other places, you have probably had an almost daily acquaintance with literary celebrities. If you are in Newport, Saratoga, Florida or California, vou have seen the great business men of the nation come and go. Please tell us about the prominent men that you have served at one time or another, and give us little human touches about them that will make them seem like men instead of statues. We ought to get some papers on this subject that will be as interesting as any that have ever appeared in the journal. Excerpt from Bulletin of Pharmacy, Vol. 29: A Live Magazine for Druggists; April, 1915 But to get back. Some of the governmental responses to calls fo r enlightenment make interesting reading, and many of them are highly important. We are told, for in stance, that no one but a proprietor of a regis tered store may sign orders for narcotics. The proprietor may sign up orders in advance, though, and these may be used by a clerk dur ing his absence. If a physician orders 300 pills to be made up by a druggist, and the pills come within the scope of the law, an order form must be used, not a prescription blank. If a doctor should write a prescription for 2 grains of opium, grain of morphine, grain of heroin, and 1 grain of codeine to the ounce (if he should!) such a mixture would come within the scope of the law, for the aggregate of opium compounds carries the somewhat potent preparation over the line. Excerpt from Bulletin of Pharmacy, Vol. 29: A Live Magazine for Druggists; August, 1915 Later, when Dr. Wiley became head of the Pharmacopoeia] convention, he carried this idea along with him, and after he had been overruled in the matter of the adoption of the standards he advocated, the whole subject was thrown open for a wider discussion and more drastic action. And thus the question has dragged along for more than four years. The subcommittee on scope, by a vote of 5 to 1, favored the retention of whisky, and two months later the executive committee, by a vote of 13 to 1, took precisely the same action. This was in 1911; and in 1913 the general committee, by a vote of 38 to 8, decided to retain whisky in the Pharmacopoeia. Excerpt from Bulletin of Pharmacy, Vol. 29: A Live Magazine for Druggists; January, 1915 If your business was prosperous during the past year, aim for a higher mark this year. No business is worth very much unless it leads to more business. No year is successful unless it points to a still more successful year. Start 1915 by making every dollar you spend for advertising do its utmost limit of work. Your advertising space is like a ower garden or a corn field; you can plant it with plain every-day seed and get an indifferent crop, or you can plant it with prize seed and get a prize crop.
