Excerpt from The Bibliography of Shorthand Shorthand proper being the main feature of the book. I have endeavored to make its Bibliography complete and almost exhaustive, as far as the English language is concerned, to the time of holding the International Shorthand Congress. I have thought lit, however, to comprise select works on kindred subjects, which, for various reasons, I believe, will be considered of value to the student of shorthand literature. These subjects are Abbre vinted Longhancl; Alphabets. Especially in relation to their origin; Crypto graphy, both on Ciphering and Deciphering; Universal Language; and Phonetics, or Spelling Reform. If the English literature of the last subject had been fully catalogued in these pages. However. My book would have still further exceeded its proposed limits. In fact, this branch of literature is increasing in bull: and importance so rapidly from year to year that it claims, and is bound to possess at no distant date. A Bibliography of its own. Meanwhile. The comparatively few items in these pages may be found of value to the student of the English language, both as it is spoken and as it is written; shorthand scholars, at least, will thank me for them.
