The all-animal touring concert event Zoola Palooza has come to town. With a motley crew of animals playing a variety of instruments, homographs abound. Homographs are words that are spelled the same but sound different and have different meanings. Billy the striped BASS opens the show wearing a big BOW tie. He gives a gracious BOW from the top of his BASS fiddle. This terrific companion to Dear Deer: A Book of Homophones and The Bat Can Bat: A Book of True Homonyms brings homographs to the spotlight for a show-stopping good time.A Christy Ottaviano Book

(Bass Instruction). The function of the bass player in rock music is multi-dimensional. In How to Create Rock bass Lines , you'll explore common rock drum beats, popular rock chord progressions, and the scales and techniques you'll need to add melody to your playing. By combining all of these elements, you'll learn how to create bass lines that lock in with the drummer and complement the other instruments. You'll also take a look at examples in the style of rock bass greats like Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, Flea, John Entwistle, and Tom Hamilton, to see how these masters put their own unique spin on the rock format. The book includes loads of demo and play-along tracks available online for download or streaming.

This expanded fourth edition defines and cross-references 9,040 homophones and 2,133 homographs (up from 7,870 and 1,554 in the 3rd ed.). As the most comprehensive compilation of American homophones (words that sound alike) and homographs (look-alikes), this latest edition serves well where even the most modern spell-checkers and word processors fail--although rain, reign, and rein may be spelled correctly, the context in which these words may appropriately be used is not obvious to a computer.

The Art of Double Bass Playing is the result of a collaboration between Warren Benfield, an outstanding bassist/teacher and James Seay Dean, Jr., Associate Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, a skilled writer/editor. Warren Benfield started his professional career in 1934 as the youngest member of the Minneapolis Symphony. Moving on to the St. Louis Symphony as principal bass and then to the Philadelphia Orchestra as co-principal bass, he joined the Chicago Symphony in 1949 where he remained until his retirement in 1987. Benfield has always been dedicated to teaching, and during his years with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, he was on the faculties of Northwestern University and DePaul University. He has also given many master classes and lectures, including two in China. Since retiring, he is continuing to teach a few students at the American Conservatory and at Chicago's Merit School for underprivileged children, which focuses on the arts. Benfield's particular aim is to teach the approach of the double bass from a musical, as well as a technical standpoint.
