It is fair to say that something is always happening at Santa’s home; from naming day parties, experimental toys or playful and mischievous reindeer, something is always happening. Whether it’s little Oscar sneaking down to Santa’s fridge for an extra bowl of his magical ice cream which is sprinkled with fairy dust and seems to glow and say to Oscar, “eat me, eat me now”. Then there are the tricks Rudolf gets up to so he can get a few extra carrots, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage, completely forgetting about the side effects of exceptionally smelly botty burps that lots of Brussels sprouts and cabbage give the reindeer. Then there are the mishaps in Santa’s toy workshop such as when a young apprentice elf decides to put some of Santa’s magic flying dust for his sleigh on a toy airplane she has made. The airplane goes on a flight around Santa’s workshop, stables and home causing all sorts of trouble, particularly in Santa’s kitchen where cook is in the middle of making one of Santa’s favourite ice creams, raspberry ripple, where the raspberries seem to swim the ripple saying, “catch me if you can”. And what about the efforts that the young elves get up to in finding out if they are in Santa’s good or naughty book? And then there’s the book containing all the good children’s names along with the presents they have waiting for them at Christmas.

He's a symbol of hope and hapiness, of generosity and benevolence. Santa Clause is simply one of the most beloved legends ever embraced. The Story of Santa explores the history of Father Christmas. Who is he, really? Where did he come from? (His origins may surprise you!) Why does he fulfill our wishes? And what can we learn from him? He's become a ubiquitous figure during the Christmas season with his white beard, red suit, and prominent belly, but just how much do those celebrating the happy holiday really know about Santa Claus? Here is the whole story from the beginning—including the pre-Santas like Sinterklaas, Father Christmas, and of course, St. Nicholas. This beautifully illustrated book celebrates all things Santa ranging from the much-loved poem "The Night Before Christmas" to the songs, movies, images, and stories that are loved by both young and old. Along the way, it explores the favorite stories that have sprung up around him, including Santa’s elves, his workshop, Santa’s beloved reindeer and the legend of Mrs. Claus and the North Pole abode where she and her husband make their home. You'll even learn the secret to how Santa has time to visit every house around the world in just one night (a mathematician explains how it’s physically possible).

First published in 1904, ‘A Kidnapped Santa Claus’ by L. Frank Baum is a festive short story from the prolific Oz author. Contentedly living in his castle in Laughing Valley, Santa has become a source of envy for a group of Daemons living nearby; Selfishness; Envy; Hatred; Malice; and the confused Daemon of Repentance. The Daemons try to lure Santa into taking part in their wicked ways, but Santa is too good to be tempted or tricked. When this fails, the Daemons hatch a dastardly plot to kidnap Santa Claus instead. Santa’s friends must hurry to find him, whilst also completing Santa’s mission to deliver everyone’s gifts and save Christmas. Lyman Frank Baum (1856 – 1919) was a prolific and well-known American writer. He is best known for his famous series of modern fairy tales set in the imaginary land of Oz. The first of the books, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ is widely considered to be the first true American fairy tale and was the basis for the hugely popular 1939 classic musical ‘The Wizard of Oz’ starring Judy Garland. Born and raised in New York, Baum held a range of jobs including as a poultry farmer, clerk, and storekeeper before pursuing his talent for writing at the age of 41. He wrote 14 novels in the Oz series, as well as over 40 other novels and over 80 short stories. He died in California in 1919.

'TWAS the night before Christmas, and all through the house,Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,In the hope that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds,While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.'
