Stimulated Raman Scattering Microscopy: Techniques and Applications describes innovations in instrumentation, data science, chemical probe development, and various applications enabled by a state-of-the-art stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscope. Beginning by introducing the history of SRS, this book is composed of seven parts in depth including instrumentation strategies that have pushed the physical limits of SRS microscopy, vibrational probes (which increased the SRS imaging functionality), data science methods, and recent efforts in miniaturization. This rapidly growing field needs a comprehensive resource that brings together the current knowledge on the topic, and this book does just that. Researchers who need to know the requirements for all aspects of the instrumentation as well as the requirements of different imaging applications (such as different types of biological tissue) will benefit enormously from the examples of successful demonstrations of SRS imaging in the book. Led by Editor-in-Chief Ji-Xin Cheng, a pioneer in coherent Raman scattering microscopy, the editorial team has brought together various experts on each aspect of SRS imaging from around the world to provide an authoritative guide to this increasingly important imaging technique. This book is a comprehensive reference for researchers, faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and engineers. Includes every aspect from theoretic reviews of SRS spectroscopy to innovations in instrumentation and current applications of SRS microscopy Provides copious visual elements that illustrate key information, such as SRS images of various biological samples and instrument diagrams and schematics Edited by leading experts of SRS microscopy, with each chapter written by experts in their given topics

Since the 3rd edition appeared, a fast evolution of the field has occurred. The fourth edition of this classic work provides an up-to-date account of the nonlinear phenomena occurring inside optical fibers. The contents include such important topics as self- and cross-phase modulation, stimulated Raman and Brillouin scattering, four-wave mixing, modulation instability, and optical solitons. Many new figures have been added to help illustrate the concepts discussed in the book. New to this edition are chapters on highly nonlinear fibers and and the novel nonlinear effects that have been observed in these fibers since 2000. Such a chapter should be of interest to people in the field of new wavelengths generation, which has potential application in medical diagnosis and treatments, spectroscopy, new wavelength lasers and light sources, etc. Continues to be industry bestseller providing unique source of comprehensive coverage on the subject of nonlinear fiber optics Fourth Edition is a completely up-to-date treatment of the nonlinear phenomena occurring inside optical fibers Includes 2 NEW CHAPTERS on the properties of highly nonlinear fibers and their novel nonlinear effects

The connection between stimulated Raman scattering and self-focusing was investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Special attention was given to (1) an explanation of the simultaneous occurrence of several order Stokes and anti-Stokes radiation and (2) an anomalous time behavior, which was found to be present, in the higher order Stokes and 1st anti-Stokes radiation, especially in carbon disulfide. The first phenomenon is explained by introducing a distribution of filament lengths, and good agreement is obtained between theory and experiment. It is suggested that the time anomaly is caused by dielectric breakdown, and numerical calculations are carried out showing qualitative agreement with the observed data. (Author).

Femtosecond optics involves the study of ultra-short pulses of light. Understanding the behaviour of these light pulses makes it possible to develop ultra-fast lasers with a wide range of applications in such areas as medical imaging, chemical analysis and micro-machining. Written by two leading experts in the field, this book reviews the theory of the interaction of femtosecond light pulses with matter, femtosecond lasers and laser systems, and the principles of femtosecond coherent spectroscopy of impurity amorphous media. reviews the theory of the interaction of femtosecond light pulses with matter Discusses femtosecond lasers and laser systems Considers the principles of femtosecond coherent spectroscopy of impurity amorphous media
