Excerpt from University of Iowa Studies in Natural History, Vol. 10 The material which serves as the basis for the present paper was secured mainly by the writer and Mrs. Stoner who were members of the scientific party from the University of Iowa which visited some of the West India Islands, Barbados and Antigua, in particular, during the spring and summer of 1918. Collecting was done on Barbados at irregular intervals and as time afforded from other duties between May 16 and June 11, and at Antigua between June 19 and July 19. To the best of the writer's knowledge no systematic collecting of this group of insects has heretofore been indulged in on either Barbados or Antigua, although extensive general collecting has been undertaken on these as well as on certain other islands of the West Indies, namely Trinidad, Jamaica, St. Vincent and Grenada. Indeed, considerable intensive collecting has been done in some of these places. Of course various species have been reported from time to time on different islands of the group and on some islands certain species are of considerable economic importance. At Barbados, only members of the family Pentatomidæ were secured, but, without doubt, representatives of the families Cydnidæ and Scutelleridæ also occur on the islands. Fortunately we were able to take two species of Scutelleridae at Antigua, but representatives of the Cydnidæ were not discovered. Most of the pentatomids here discussed have been hitherto recorded from the "West Indies" and some more specifically from Grenada and St. Vincent, but few from either Barbados or Antigua.
