James Miller is a typical teenage boy with an attitude. With Christmas just around the corner, James has a new car at the top of his Christmas wish list. An entitled young man from a privileged family, James lives in his own perfect self-centered world until he receives news that shatters his young existence. Grief-stricken, he strikes out and eventually comes to realize that there is more to life than his own drama. This sweet tale will be a welcome addition under every Christmas tree this holiday season. Shoelaces for Christmas reminds us that Christmas is a time for healing, and miracles do still happen.

Meet Terrell Dougan's sister, Irene: a woman in her sixties who still believes in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny--but who also enjoys playing those characters for the children at the local hospital; whose favorite outfit, which she'll sneak into whenever Terrell's back is turned, consists of Mickey Mouse kneesocks and shorts; who wins over the neighborhood kids by hosting two fire trucks at her lemonade stand; whose fridge bears a magnet: NORMAL PEOPLE WORRY ME. When Irene was born, her parents were advised to institutionalize her. They refused and instead became trailblazers in advocating for the rights of people with mental disabilities. The entire family benefited, with a life rich in stress, sorrows, hilarity, joy, and overwhelming kindness from strangers. Terrell has found that the only way to get through the difficult moments is to laugh--even in the most trying of times. In her moving, funny, and unforgettable memoir about life with Irene, Terrell Dougan shows that love, humor, and compassion are enough to heal us, every single day.

Download Adverbs and Adverbial Adjuncts at the Interfaces Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This book clarifies - on the basis of mainly Hungarian data - basic issues concerning the category ‘adverb,’ the function ‘adverbial,’ and the grammar of adverbial modification. It argues for the PP analysis of adverbials, and claims that they enter the derivation via left- and right-adjunction. Their merge-in position is determined by the interplay of syntactic, semantic, and prosodic factors. The semantically motivated constraints discussed also include a type restriction affecting adverbials semantically incorporated into the verbal predicate, an obligatory focus position for scalar adverbs representing negative values of bidirectional scales, cooccurrence restrictions between verbs and adverbials involving incompatible subevents, etc. The order and interpretation of adverbials in the postverbal domain is shown to be affected by such phonologically motivated constraints as the Law of Growing Constituents, and by intonation phrase restructuring. The shape of the light-headed chain arising in the course of locative PP incorporation is determined by morpho-phonological requirements. The types of adverbs and adverbials analyzed include locatives, temporals, comitatives, epistemic adverbs, adverbs of degree, manner, counting, and frequency, quantificational adverbs, and adverbial participles.

If you are a cat person, you know that cats celebrate Christmas. They marvel at Christmas trees, attack gift wrap, give presents (c'mon! a dead mouse counts!), receive presents, and eat too much. This holiday behavior was shrewdly documented by B. "Hap" Kliban (1935–1990), the closest man to a cat anyone has ever encountered. For the first time, his dozens of Yuletide Cat cartoons and paintings have been collected in this charming but revealing little book. As an extra added attraction, never-before-published Cat lyrics to well-known Christmas carols are included, researched and collected by Professor Winkie B. Earmites. Hark the Hungry Kitties Sing, We Wish You a Mousie Christmas, and Kitties We Have Heard on High are just a few of the rousing standards included. Click on the small picture above for an inside view.
