When this book was published in 1980, the Energy Crisis of the 1970s continued to cast a long shadow across Canadian society. Its bleak analysis of the energy future shows just how deep that shadow was--and is. Wilson's tough, uncompromising study remains important reading for anyone who wants to understand what's at stake in the politics of energy and what needs to be done by government and industry to ensure that the economy of the future will continue to run when non-renewable sources of energy run out. The Energy Squeeze combines detailed analysis of Canada's energy future with prescriptions for action--nationalized supply and pricing, for example--that reflect the crisis atmosphere of the early 1980s.

This report adopts a scenario-based approach to help better understand the forces impacting Canada's energy environment and to address the uncertainties & issues associated with evolving energy markets. It examines two distinct scenarios of Canada's energy future for the public to consider: the supply push scenario, in which technology advances gradually and Canadians take limited action with respect to the environment; and the techno-vert scenario, representing a world in which technology advances rapidly and Canadians take broad actions with respect to the environment & the accompanying preference for environmentally friendly products & cleaner-burning fuels. Projections are made for energy demand in total and in the residential, commercial, industrial, & transportation sectors, plus non-energy demand for hydrocarbons; and for energy supply (production and supply/demand balances) in the electricity, crude oil, natural gas liquids, natural gas, and coal sectors. Issues & implications for demand & supply are discussed. Includes glossary.

Written in the early 1980s, author I.A. McDougall shows that as an import-dependent country, Canada was ill-prepared for possible disruptions in its oil supply. McDougall envisioned a future in which superpower rivalry over dwindling world reserves, coupled with rationing of supply by OPEC members and volatility in the Persian Gulf, would make Canada's dependence on foreign oil increasingly precarious. He asserted that the contemporary Liberal government's National Energy Program was a usueful first step in promotion an independent energy strategy. Marketing Canada's Energy is a passionate addition to the lively debate over Canada's independence during the 1980s.

Download Securing our energy future? A review of Nova Scotia s energy sector in 2004 Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
A review of Nova Scotia energy sector in 2004 Summary In 2003 and 2004, the Nova Scotia Department of Energy released annual "progress reports", intended to explain how the province was meeting the goals and objectives outlined in the 2001 Energy Strategy. [...] The province's existing Energy Strategy discuses energy security, primarily in terms of how the province's offshore natural gas supplies could be used to enhance the energy security of Nova Scotia, Canada and the US. [...] The reality is that the vast majority of the province's energy is imported leaving the Nova Scotia vulnerable to the volatility of the world energy markets. [...] One of the expected benefits of the offshore, touted by the Energy Strategy, was the development of a strong offshore services sector. [...] Given the decline in natural gas production from Nova Scotia's offshore, LNG appears to be one of the ways the province can continue to be a "player" in the natural gas field.
