The SCHULTZ PIANO COURSE is a comprehensive, flexible course of music instruction for the young, beginning piano student. It is easily adapted to each student's individual rate of progress. The complete course includes three areas of study - reading and performance, technique, and theory - to be studied simultaneously in the piano lesson. Each area is covered in three carefully graded levels to encourage logical and steady progress. The Technique books provide a solid foundation in finger strength and finger independence, with emphasis on equal development of each hand. Finger drills are supplemented with studies in other important areas of piano technique. Additional activities requiring repetition and transposition encourage the student's musical awareness and creativity while providing a well-rounded piano technique.

STANDARD PIANO TECHNIQUE is a supplementary manual of scales, chords, and arpeggios not covered in the main body of the SCHULTZ PIANO COURSE. The use of these materials through a separate text allows the teacher the flexibility to elect when and how to introduce standard technique into the lesson for each student. While the course contains no set guidelines for introducing these fundamentals, they are essential components in a complete music education. It is recommended that the student be introduced to CHORDS IN MAJOR KEYS and CHORDS IN MINOR KEYS as the corresponding key signatures are being studied. The primary triads in each key are emphasized to serve as a logical introduction to the sections on cadences.

This exciting new teaching method, by the renowned piano pedagogue Hans-Günter Heumann is ideal for adults and young people looking to learn the piano from scratch, or for those returning to the piano after a break from playing. Using classical music as a basis for learning, this method introduces interesting, varied and well-known pieces right from the outset. The two method books have been carefully designed to progress in small manageable steps, beginning with simple fingering patterns and exercises, onto some of the most beautiful melodies and pieces from the baroque, classical and romantic eras, such as the Ode to Joy, Für Elise and the Blue Danube Waltz. Leading the student through a range of exercises, repertoire pieces, theory checks, tips on practicing, playing and technique, and composer biographies, the process of learning is made interesting, informed and fun. The four supplementary volumes present further material to help learning at each stage of the students' development, as well as offering up a wider range of beautiful pieces, for the solo pianist, or piano duet.

Now your students will have the technical tools needed to achieve artistic performances. They will encounter skills in four areas—playing naturally (physical aspects), moving freely (around the keyboard), playing beautifully (tone production) and playing artistically. The technical goals are accomplished through three types of activities—patterned exercises with necessary repetitions to make the technique feel natural, artistic etudes that showcase the student’s technique in an artistic musical setting and appealing and descriptive exercises called Technique Tools. The nine Technique Tools in Level 1A relate to relaxed shoulders, arm weight, moving freely, strong fingertips, finger weights, repeated notes, thumb position, finger independence and gentle hand rock. Each page in the Technique Book correlates with a specific page in the Lesson Book; when the Lesson, Theory, Performance and Technique books are used together, they offer a fully integrated and unparalleled comprehensive approach to piano instruction.
