This is an excerpt from our larger guide to all of Hungary, focusing on Budapest and the surrounding area primarily. The author is a resident of Budapest, who knows the region intimately and takes us behind the scenes to discover its best features the sights, the places to stay and eat, the shopping, and all the activities. Millions of people every year hike into, bike, drive or climb into the green valleys and limestone mountain ridges of Hungary s national parks and the hills. Storks, eagles, wrens, blackbirds, woodpeckers, and flocks of thousands make their home in forests, grasslands, and cliff-sides. Majestic antlered stags and deer range the forest. Fresh springs and cold clear creeks tumble down from the mountains. The author takes us there. Sitting astride the Danube, Budapest has been called the Paris of Eastern Europe and The Pearl of the Danube. There are thousands of restaurants and virtually every type of cuisine. Hotels and nightspots are just as numerous and the author guides us to the best of them all. This is the only guide illustrated with color maps and photographs throughout. Print edition is 586 pages.

Wander to "where the song of the ocean / Meets the salty piece of land" with Tully Mars, washed up from Margaritaville and in the mood for monkeyshines, in a shimmering Caribbean epic by the late king of tropical rock, Jimmy Buffett. It's not on any chart, but the tropical island of Cayo Loco is the perfect place to run away from all your problems. Waking from a ganja buzz on the beach in Tulum, Tully can't believe his eyes when a 142-foot schooner emerges out of the ocean mist. At its helm is Cleopatra Highbourne, the eccentric 101-year-old sea captain who will take him to a lighthouse on a salty piece of land that will change his life forever. From a lovely sunset sail in Punta Margarita to a wild spring-break foam party in San Pedro, Tully encounters an assortment of treasure hunters, rock stars, sailors, seaplane pilots, pirates, and even a ghost or two.

A short illustrated story about a young giraffe growing up in the African Rift Valley, and meeting a variety of African animals. He and the other characters are cartoon versions of real animals and I have tried to keep them in character while indulging in enthusiastic anthropomorphism. Twiga is a reticulated giraffe, common in Northern Kenya when I was there and is now on the threatened list. Twiga is giraffe in Kiswahili. The book has been written in a style that I hope entertains the young and adults while also conveying some of the real biological characteristics of the animals. There is a specific message on conservation and the harm caused by humans to the environment. Illustrations and script are all by the author, Juliet Gwynne Ament, who lived and worked in Africa for over 10 years. This is an illustrated children's story with links to real animal sounds, credited to their owners, and links to wildlife conservation web pages. All photographs by the author's family taken on safari in Africa (Masai Mara, Kenya). Interactive e-book.
