Ever wondered how your antibiotics are selected? Doctors and nurses stand at the forefront, but in the background lies the biomedical scientists whose work is very important in the treatment of patients. Your Stools Are Safe in Our Hands is a satirical comedy about the yearly UKAS inspection. Readers will have to decipher fact from fiction as they discover the often laughable expectations that are placed on the small laboratory teams, who are working to full capacity. With too much emphasis on paperwork and with increasing budget cuts, important things like patient care can often become secondary in a department that’s pivotal to patient treatment. Educational but humorous, Your Stools Are Safe in Our Hands lifts the lid on what goes on behind the scenes in the busiest hospitals.

A narrative therapy book to read to toddlers and young children who struggle with hair pulling behavior, specifically known as trichotillomania. By reading our children social stories, they are able to gain an increased awareness of themselves as an individual as well as themselves in relation to others. This process allows children to advance in their development by learning how to identify the various feelings that they experience along with healthy ways to cope and manage those feelings. Children who have trichotillomania often utilize hair pulling as a coping/self-soothing strategy to manage various feelings such as worry, boredom, and/or frustration. I hope that you find this book useful in helping you to work with your child to normalize his/her feelings as well as to gain alternative adaptive coping skills to replace the hair pulling behavior.

Download the emptiness of our hands Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
During Lent and Holy Week, 1999, Phyllis Cole-Dai and James Murray lived voluntarily on the streets of Columbus, Ohio, the nation’s fifteenth largest city. They didn’t go out on the streets to satisfy idle curiosity, or to experience a strange new world. They didn’t go out to find answers to questions, solutions to problems. They didn’t go out to save anyone, or to hand out donations of food and blankets. They went out with one primary aim: to be as present as possible to everyone they met—to love their neighbor as themselves. Doing so, they were reminded just how difficult the practice of compassion can be, especially because of personal judgments, assumptions, fears and desires, all habits of mind that harden one’s regard for and behavior toward other people. The Emptiness of Our Hands: A Lent Lived on the Streets is a meditative narrative accompanied by nearly thirty black and white photographs, most of them shot by James using crude pinhole cameras that he constructed from trash. This book will thrust you out the door of your comfortable life, straight into the unknown. What can happen to a person without a home? Indeed, what might happen to you?

Download WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care provide health-care workers (HCWs), hospital administrators and health authorities with a thorough review of evidence on hand hygiene in health care and specific recommendations to improve practices and reduce transmission of pathogenic microorganisms to patients and HCWs. The present Guidelines are intended to be implemented in any situation in which health care is delivered either to a patient or to a specific group in a population. Therefore, this concept applies to all settings where health care is permanently or occasionally performed, such as home care by birth attendants. Definitions of health-care settings are proposed in Appendix 1. These Guidelines and the associated WHO Multimodal Hand Hygiene Improvement Strategy and an Implementation Toolkit (http://www.who.int/gpsc/en/) are designed to offer health-care facilities in Member States a conceptual framework and practical tools for the application of recommendations in practice at the bedside. While ensuring consistency with the Guidelines recommendations, individual adaptation according to local regulations, settings, needs, and resources is desirable. This extensive review includes in one document sufficient technical information to support training materials and help plan implementation strategies. The document comprises six parts.

Download Can I See your Hands Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The title of this book: CAN I SEE YOUR HANDS refers to one of the key outcomes of this book-- being able to tell whether or not people want to cause us harm. To put it very simply, if you can see someone's hands and they are not concealing them, holding a weapon or positioning to strike you, one's levels of trust and confidence can increase. This simple example can serve as a reminder to all of us in many of the complex moments we have to deal with, and difficult decisions we have to make, in everyday life.

Imagine that the United States were to scrap all its income transfer programs—including Social Security, Medicare, and all forms of welfare—and give every American age twenty-one and older $10,000 a year for life. This is the Plan, a radical new approach to social policy that defies any partisan label. First laid out by Charles Murray a decade ago, the updated edition reflects economic developments since that time. Murray, who previous books include Losing Ground and The Bell Curve, demonstrates that the Plan is financially feasible and the uses detailed analysis to argue that many goals of the welfare state—elimination of poverty, comfortable retirement for everyone, universal access to healthcare—would be better served under the Plan than under the current system. Murray’s goal, shared by Left and Right, is a society in which everyone, including the unluckiest among us, has the opportunity and means to construct a satisfying life. In Our Hands offers a rich and startling new way to think about how that goal might be achieved.
