A New York Times bestseller, Safari is a magical journey for the whole family. Readers, as if on African safari, encounter eight wild animals that come alive using never-before-seen Photicular technology. Each full-color image is like a 3-D movie on the page, delivering a rich, fluid, immersive visual experience. The result is breathtaking. The cheetah bounds. The gazelle leaps. The African elephant snaps its ears. The gorilla munches the leaves off a branch. It’s mesmerizing, as visually immediate as a National Geographic or Animal Planet special. Accompanying the images is Safari, the guide: It begins with an evocative journal of a safari along the Mara River in Kenya and interweaves the history of safaris. Then for each animal there is a lively, informative essay and an at-a-glance list of important facts. It’s the romance of being on safari—and the thrill of seeing the animals in motion— in a book unlike any other.

Karamojo Safari, first published in 1949, is a classic story of elephant hunting, safaris, native life, and the wilds of Uganda and Kenya in the late 1800s, at a time when the region (then known as “Karamojo”) was completely unknown to the outside world. Walter Bell (1880-1954), known as Karamojo Bell, was a Scottish adventurer, big game hunter in East Africa, soldier, decorated fighter pilot, sailor, writer, and painter. Famous for being one of the most successful ivory hunters of his time, Bell was an advocate of the importance of shooting accuracy and shot placement with smaller calibre rifles, over the use of heavy large-bore rifles for big African game. He improved his shooting skills by careful dissection and study of the anatomy of the skulls of the elephants he shot. He even perfected the clean shooting of elephants from the extremely difficult position of being diagonally behind the target; this shot became known as the Bell Shot. Although chiefly known for his exploits in Africa, Bell also traveled to North America and New Zealand, sailed windjammers, and saw service in South Africa during the Boer War, and flew in the Royal Flying Corps in East Africa, Greece and France during World War I.

What happens when 8-year-old Kate, on safari in South Africa with her family, meets Michelle, a professional wildlife guide? The two new friends – one from America, the other from South Africa – turn their adventures into a lively book in which they share facts and secrets about the African bushveld. At the same time, they show how young children everywhere can become advocates for wild animals. Let’s Go on Safari! combines daily entries in Kate’s African safari journal with insights from Michelle about the bushveld and wildlife. Kate discovers the wonders of wildlife contrasted with the threats that animals face. She is inspired to make a difference. The book provides examples of small-scale, achievable animal advocacy projects that kids can initiate in their own communities and schools. Let’s Go on Safari! has been endorsed by significant conservation bodies, including the Jane Goodall Institute, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Global Wildlife Conservation, an organisation working around the world to save endangered animals. Sales points: An entertaining account of what happens on a bushveld safari, told by a young nature lover; packed with interesting facts and full-colour photographs, and presented in an accessible journal style; shows young readers that they can play a positive role in saving wildlife; endorsed by global conservation bodies: the Jane Goodall Institute, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Global Wildlife Conservation.

Mrs Pollifax is sent on a safari to smoke out an international assassin whose next target is the president of Zambia. “Just take a lot of pictures of everyone on that safari,” the CIA man told her. “One of them has to be our man.” It sounded simple enough. But it wasn’t. Because shortly after she started taking pictures, someone stole her film. And right after that she was kidnapped by Rhodesian terrorists. And right after that – well, read for yourself ... Armed with only an open mind and a little karate, Mrs Pollifax is the most unlikely and lovable of international spies. What readers are saying: “Love, love, love Mrs Pollifax. Ms Gilman has an extraordinary way of keeping you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages of her books.” “How can a sweet little old lady get into so much trouble? Mrs Pollifax is a gem and a hoot!” “A book that gives you a big smile on every page. I'm looking forward to my next Mrs Pollifax adventure.” “Who wouldn't fall in love with a senior citizen who wears absurd hats, pushes the book cart at the hospital, and knows karate?” “I first read the Mrs Pollifax books when I was a little girl and I keep coming back to read the books again and again.” “Read it, it's the best thing you can do for yourself. It's like a reminder of the zest for life.” Editorial reviews: “Mrs Pollifax is an enchantress.” New York Times “Mrs Pollifax gives Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple a rival to reckon with.” Toronto Star “Filled with adventures–and misadventures–but through it all Mrs Pollifax is triumphant.” Booklist “Absorbing and worthwhile ... You won’t want to put the book down.” Portland Telegram “The pace never flags, bolstered by the shrewd Mrs P. and a host of well-defined characters who all work their surprising wiles.” Publishers Weekly “Should delight you whether you’re looking for smiles or thrills.” New York Times Book Review “All’s right with the world as long as Mrs Pollifax is part of it.” Mobile Register
