Download Proton Rapidity Distributions from 60 GeV Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
An analysis of the proton rapidity distribution in central 16 O + Au collisions at 60 GeV/n measured in the NA35 streamer chamber detector at the CERN SPS is presented. The charge excess of positive particles over negative particles was measured. The rapidity distribution of the charge excess which can be associated with the primordial protons in the collision is studies in terms of the nuclear stopping power and is compared to the predictions of various models. 7 refs., 2 figs.

Download Distributions of Rapidity Intervals, Jet Ranges and Maximum Rapidity Gaps in Proton - Proton Interactions at 200-GeV/c Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The semiinclusive reaction p+p → n charged particles + anything was investigated with nuclear emulsions irradiated with 200 GeV/c protons at the NAL accelerator (Batavia, US). They measured angles [Theta] of all charged particles. In every event particles were ordered on rapidity which was approximated by the value y = -lntg [Theta]lab/2. In every event particles were numbered on increasing the rapidity. Let us consider, for example, distributions of ordered rapidities and distributions of differences of various ordered rapidities and try to make a physical conclusion from the analysis of these distributions.

Download Quark Matter Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
From the Editors Preface: "Quark Matter 1987 was attended by about 250 scientists, representing 75 research institutions around the world - the scientific community engaged in experimental and theoretical studies of high energy nuclear collisions. The central theme of the meeting was the possibility of achieving extreme energy densities in extended systems of strongly interacting matter - with the ultimate aim of creating in the laboratory a deconfined state of matter, a state in which quarks and gluons attain the active degrees of freedom. High energy accelerator beams and cosmic radiation projectiles provide the experimental tools for this endeavour; on the theoretical side, it is intimately connected to recent developments in the non-perturbative study of quantum chromodynamics. Phase transitions between hadronic matter and quark-gluon plasma are of basic interest also for our understanding of the dynamics of the early universe ... A very special feature of this Sixth Quark Matter Conference was the advent of the first experimental results from dedicated accelerator studies. These were conducted during 1986/87 at the AGS of Brookhaven National Laboratory ... and at the CERN SPS ... An intense discussion of these data formed the main activity of the meeting.

Download Energy and Target Dependence of the Pseudo-rapidity Distributions in Pion- and Proton-nucleus Collisions at Fermilab Energies Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Multiparticle production in hadron-nucleus collisions has been studied using hodoscope arrays. Data on angular distributions were collected for incident .pi./sup + -/, K/sup + -/, and P/sup + -/ at 50, 100, and 200 GeV with targets ranging from hydrogen through uranium. The extent in pseudo-rapidity of particles produced in the target fragmentation region increases with energy. Proton and pion induced reactions exhibit different behavior for the same target nucleus. However, for target nuclei with identical values of .nu.bar, (where .nu.bar is the average thickness in units of the mean free path of the incident particle) the behavior is similar. Pseudo-rapidity distributions are compared with theoretical models.

Download Quark-Gluon Plasma Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Quark-Gluon Plasma introduces the primordial matter, composed of two types of elementary particles, created at the time of the Big Bang. During the evolution of the universe, Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) undergoes a transition to hadronic matter governed by quantum chromodynamics, the law of strong interactions. After an introduction to gauge theories, various aspects of quantum chromodynamic phase transitions are illustrated in a self-contained manner. The cosmological approach and renormalization group are discussed, as well as the cosmological and astrophysical implications of QGP, on the basis of Einstein's equations. Recent developments towards the formation of QGP in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions are also presented in detail. This text is suitable as an introduction for graduate students, as well as providing a valuable reference for researchers already working in this and related fields. It includes eight appendices and over a hundred exercises.
