Welsh Planning Law and Practice provides a comprehensive guide to the sources and structure of Welsh planning law and a route through its complexity. This is not a comparative study, but rather deals with legislation and policy affecting land in Wales, placing them in the context of shared principles and concepts and the case law common to England and Wales. More than an academic exercise, planning is a practical matter affecting important aspects of daily life, and the desirability of public engagement in the planning process is well settled. This book contributes to the promotion of recognition of the body of Welsh planning law, to aid accessibility for all who practise in or who are (or want to be) involved in shaping development in Wales.

"The Law Commission has been invited by the Welsh Government to review the possibility of simplifying and consolidating planning law as it applies in Wales, and in particulary to make proposals for technical reforms. This follows the approach recommended in our report on the form and accessibility of the law in Wales, and forms a key part of the Assembly's pilot project of codification. The result of this exercise will contribute to the emergence in due course of a planning bill that will replace all or part of more than 25 Acts of Parliament and of the Assembly. That in turn will form the principal element of a new planning code, which will also contain associated secondary legislation (regulations) and government guidance."--

"Topic of this consultation: Planning law in Wales. This scoping consultation paper does the following: considers the case for simplifying and consolidating planning legislation in Wales, with the eventual aim of producing a Planning Code for Wales; proposes technical adjustments to produce a satisfactory consolidated text - for example, correcting errors, removing ambiguities and obsolete material, modernising language and resolving a variety of minor inconsistencies; proposes simplification of the law by streamlining and rationalising unnecessary process and procedure; and considers the writing into statute of propositions of law developed in case law where they might contribute towards more accessible and coherent legislation"--Page iii.
