STAR experiment investigates the formation of the Quark Gluon Plasma via the heavy ion collisions taking place at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider situated at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY. The production of charm quark occurs in the early stages of the heavy ion collisions dominantly via gluon fusion. Due to the fact that the yield of charm is affected by the conditions of the early stages of the collision, the measurement of the charm production provides a useful tool for description of the initial stage that took place. One of the most important findings of the experiments at RHIC was the discovery of the anomalous quenching of jets when passing through the hot and dense matter build in nucleus-nucleus collisions. Heavy quarks measured through non-photonic electron yields in heavy-ion reactions at RHIC, exhibit a larger suppression than expected from the theoretical considerations.n order to comprehend this puzzle and understand better the flavor dependence of the jet quenching, the separation of charm and beauty contributions as well as the measurement of their quenching is necessary.

Download Heavy Flavor Measurements at RHIC in the Near Future Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
We discuss the recent results on open charm measurements at RHIC. The heavy flavor upgrade program for both PHENIX and STAR experiments are briefly discussed. The completion of the program will yield important information on light flavor thermalization of the partonic matter created in high-energy nuclear collisions at RHIC. A new era of RHIC is ahead of us with the progress of the upgrade program.

Download Quantum Chromodynamics - Proceedings Of The Thirteenth Lake Louise Winter Institute Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The proceedings of the Lake Louise Winter Institute for 1998 deal with strong interactions. This includes the jet physics and fragmentation functions as needed in high energy collider physics, deep inelastic scattering to study the structure functions of nucleons, and finally physics with the production and hadronization of quark-gluon plasma at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Both the theoretical developments and experimental data were presented with the intent of establishing their relationship and finding new directions of study.

Download Deep Inelastic Scattering (Dis 2001), Procs Of The 9th Intl Workshop Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The proceedings of DIS 2001 present the most updated status of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) physics. Topics like structure function measurements and phenomenology, QCD studies in DIS and photoproduction, spin physics and diffractive interactions are reviewed in detail, with emphasis on those studies that push the test of QCD and the Standard Model to the limits of their present range of validity, towards both the very high and the very low four-momentum transfers in the lepton-proton scattering. Moreover, this workshop coincided with the transition between the first period of experimentation at the HERA ep collider at DESY and the start of the updated HERA II operation — allowing a review of what has been learned up to now and a discussion on the main future directions of research in this field.
